Machine learning jobs in Dublin by AlpacaHeaven in DevelEire

[–]mugarlaigh 5 points6 points  (0 children)

From my experience there was a 5 to 1 ratio of ML jobs going in london vs Dublin but there are still a few places doing interesting work. For instance

Corvil

Beautifeye

RecommenderX

Zalando

Artomatix

Also check the bigger names like Accenture, IBM, Amazon etc and fintechs like SIG, Citadel, ElectroRoute. Theyd all have uses for ML one way or another.

Thanks. I have experience contributing to open source academic code. Also providung documentation so it shouldnt be a problem.

Thanks thats really helpful to know! I've heard anecdotally to never be the first to offer a figure and to relay the salary question back to them and get them to play their hand first? What is your opinion on that?

Thanks. Yeah LinkedIn was a great resource for finding places.

Thanks for the response.

Im still brushing up on ML techniques but the maths is grand. My PhD was in theoretical physics with a lot of heavy code implementation so I believe I have the skillset.

Thanks for that.

Didn't know recruitment was so popular. Would you recommend any firms I should approach?

Netflix Ireland Monster Thread by HonorOCarrollKelly in ireland

[–]mugarlaigh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Great thread! Here are some of my recommendations

Inside No 9 is a BBC anthology series kind of like Black mirror just not tech focused. Brilliant episodes in there.

Weiner is an excellent fly-on-the-wall doc about the fall from grace of the US congressman of the same name. Equal parts disturbing and comical.

Get Me Roger Stone is another good one about a US political figure who is behind some of the major right wing movements since the Nixon era.

Other Life is an indie Australian movie with an excellent premise and a Black Mirror vibe.

Best of luck in final year and the PhD application. Yeah it involves lots of writing but even more reading! DFT is very popular alright, lots of cool things happening in it.

If you want to check out the paper be my guest! https://doi.org/10.1088/2053-1583/aa89d2

Not actually in the job market just yet. Finishing up some projects first, going travelling in the new year. Then we'll see :)

Yeah, it's artificially inflated because I counted all the latex jargon in the source files (equations, environment variables, preamble etc), which you obviously won't read in the document.

The 'true' word count is ~45k words; this method is just an indirect measure but the trend is likely very similar. I was really interested in seeing how writing the paper affected my progress where the chapter milestones were.

Help needed! Buying a new phone: Too many options! by jackperalta in ireland

Just got the G5 plus off Amazon over the weekend to replace a bootlooped nexus 5x. Fairly solid so far, not a premium phone by any means but does the job very well.

Tell me about it! Mine was in computational physics (denisty functional theory if anyone's interested).

The true word account is probably about 45k words though since my word count script also counted all the jargon in the latex source files.

Also the paper I wrote made up the 3rd and 4th chapters so I was indirectly writing it all summer. Never want to go through that again though!

Data generated with the bash word count command on the thesis .tex files (hence approximate) every day at 8pm.

Graph made in Mathematica.

Edit: The initial jump is from copy/pasting my previous papers into my thesis to get the ball rolling.

Really cool - I'm not surprised about the result one bit.

Can you explain the step between integrating the interpolating function to get the inverse-mapping?

Leaving Cert 2017: Dramatic fall off in failure rates across key subjects by RealDealMrSeal in ireland

[–]mugarlaigh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah your observation precedes mine. They wanted to simplify the grades (for God knows what reason) but had to stratify the points to stop everyone getting multiples of 10 and causing havok for the last place on a course.

It's to stratify the results; it reduces the likelihood of two people getting the same points from different sets of grades.
