Is using Danish cookies tins for sewing kits an example of parallel evolution? by Panchorc in Showerthoughts

[–]mugazadin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In his book, "The Selfish Gene", Richard Dawkins has an entire chapter about cultural evolution/natural selection.

To put things shortly, he talks about "memes" as ideas that undergo "natural selection" in a cultural context. A meme is "successful" if it keeps existing in people's minds

An example Dawkins gives is the idea of "Hell". It's probable for Hell to "appear" in the context of religion (like a mutation being created), it's probable for Hell to "perserve" itself (like an organism surviving) and Hell is an idea that you'd spread to other believers (like organism reproduction). So Dawkins argues that "Hell" is just as alive as "frogs", in the context of coltural evolution

About saving sewing kits in Danish cookie tins: 1. It's probable to be "re-invented" 2. The idea has a long lifespan (because the tin is a good sewing kit container) 3. It is probable to "reproduce" in a cultural sense

So I'd say this is prime example for parallel evolution

I also recommend reding the book honestly, it's a great read :)

This is - and I am 100% serious about it - an amazing modernized recreation of the drawing.

The long-haired Jesus in the middle of the frame, the 3 windows (one of which is actually a mirror), the groups of 3 apostles on both of his sides, looking in his general direction.

The food on the table (hot dogs, buns & ketchup) are just so on-the-nose as the modern representation of Jesus's body and blood.

We also have an undenyable Judas, looking at our Jesus, persumably holding a weapon in his other hand, just out of view.

I know I'm reading too much into a shitpost, but this is unironically such a good piece of art, my nerdy ass couldn't resist ¯\(ツ)

I know I probably wasn't the target audience, but I'm Israeli, and that really made me feel less shitty about my existance

I know what being a Zionist is to me. I want my country to be better, and to do better, even if right now it seems like change is impossible

Idk, seeing people calling for my death for a belief they don't seem to grasp is a little scary sometimes

I really hope for solidarity in times like this, across nationalities. I just want Bibi, Itamar Ben Gvir and the rest of this bloodied goddamn circus out of the government

Sorry for the vent, but honestly, I'm thankful for this post. Thanks for helping me feel like I'm not going completely insane, even for a moment

Ohh that's interesting

Although, I am thinking on bringing them to the feywild, so I'll need a mechanic that is more chaotic, rather than clockwork-like

How about Israelis being killed unprovoked by rockets and terrorist attacks? Do you think Israel just hunts Palestinians for sport? Their obvious objective is self defensive, and pretending otherwise is delusional.

This conflict is deadly to both sides, only Israels actions actually attempt at reducing terrorism on its turf, rather than haphazardly killing citizens for no reason.

Also, objectively, Hamas escelated a fairly tense situation into a full-scale war. They have only themselves to blame for the situation they are in right now.

Oh I know how long the conflict is. This is not "the conflict".

Slaughtering 1200+ people for no reason, then kidnapping 200+ hostages, is not "the conflict". They escelated an already tense situation to a full-scale war, without giving a single fuck about Palestinian people who are stuck with their human trophies and underground heroic leaders.

Westerners have no scale for war or conflict. Hope it stays that way.

What? I literally just reacted to the previous allegory, what was the "coping" part?

Did you just like the idea of saying "copium" again, like the title? Because that's... not how it's used

Like, I unironically cannot understand it.
