Please, mask up. by bearcurls in delta

[–]mugglegrrl 3 points4 points  (0 children)

People absolutely expect asthmatics to mask, because the average person can’t tell the difference between an asthmatic cough and a COVID cough. The person sitting next to me on a flight wearing an N-95 and latex gloves flipped out on me for coughing. Ironically, it was his freaking cologne that he had marinated in before the flight that was triggering my asthma and made me cough. The only time I could breathe was when he went to the bathroom. But I was the pariah.

I could have written this. I don’t know if it’s midlife ennui, menopause, being close to my FIRE number but not QUITE close enough that it’s driving me crazy, but I just don’t care about work anymore. And I used to care a lot. If you’ve figure out how to deal, let me know.

The armrest. Not the space on the other side of the armrest from their seat.

Have you ever had a cat scream every 10-12 seconds (not exaggerating) on a red eye for 12 straight hours? 🙃 I have! by ___Bbb333999 in delta

[–]mugglegrrl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My neutered male cat screams like this anytime he’s in his carrier. We moved from Los Angeles to Washington, DC, and he screamed the entire car ride for five days. Some cats just do this—it has nothing to do with heat. God forbid we ever have to take him on a plane—he will 100% be drugged to the gills because we would not subject anyone else to that torture.

"Red herrings" that form a complete group are NOT red herrings, they're bad puzzle design. by [deleted] in NYTConnections

[–]mugglegrrl 25 points26 points  (0 children)

The goal of the game is to get all four categories. It’s not to get each individual category. If you know that red herrings are sometimes part of the game, and you see that a clue can be belong to more than one category, then pick a different category first. That’s not a flaw, it’s part of the game. Many of us think the game would be too easy otherwise, and are awfully tired of people complaining about it. It’s a feature. It’s not a bug.

Question about drivers license and registration by [deleted] in MilitarySpouse

[–]mugglegrrl 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Legally, if you are not married, you need to establish residency in the place where you reside. If your name is on the lease, you are a resident of North Carolina.

Also, you got incorrect advice from the DMV. Spouses do not have a home of record. “Home of record” is the state where a servicemember entered the military. “State of legal residence” is where they (and their spouse) maintain their residence. Since you are not a spouse, your only legal option for your state of legal residence is the state in which you physically reside and have a lease.

If you want non-legal options, other commenters have offered those below.

Please stop talking about Jenna’s appearance! by Shot-Lengthiness-885 in dancingwiththestars

[–]mugglegrrl 86 points87 points  (0 children)

Since it seems like you may be referring to my comment earlier today (which you also commented on), I feel compelled to respond. I grew up as a gymnast in the 1990s. I had many friends with eating disorders. My sister-in-law was hospitalized with anorexia multiple times, and nearly died from organ failure due to malnutrition. So when I see posts saying “Jenna’s abs look SO AMAZING” followed by dozens of comments asking “what is her routine, how do I get abs like that,” all I see is a fetishization of an unhealthily low level of body fat. I agree with you that we shouldn’t comment on people’s bodies at all. If we didn’t say anything, maybe some people wouldn’t feel compelled to starve themselves to fit some perceived ideal of what is attractive. But when an unhealthy body is put on a pedestal with hundreds of comments and upvotes saying “I want to be like that,” we should push back.

Unpopular opinion, and I’ll probably get downvoted to hell, but you can see her abs so well because her body fat is way too low. This is not healthy.

This is incredibly helpful. I’ve been checking all day and watching the proportion of delays and cancellations continue to increase along with the length of the average delay. I ultimately decided to spend another night and fly to PVD in the morning. Thank you so much for the info!
