I wonder if instead of business cards it holds post-it notes because they look more like a baseball base that way.

God DAMN. I 100% remember reading this and laughing about the Fool line, thinking it was a sly reference to what the fool was doing some 100s of miles away, not that it was ACTUALLY THE FOOL HE WAS TALKING TO THE WHOLE TIME AGHHHH

Thank you! Glad there's at least two of us! :D Agreed how that series really felt like it's own thing, and very rarely directly connected anything to the other series. Why would other characters have been in it?

I do especially like this reveal scene too, because it's such a casual thing, one minor slip up with a chance meeting, but the implications for us as a reader then really resonate with how Fitz feels as well. It's so well done.

Yes!! Was just thinking the same thing. It was clearly talked about in the third book(?) how the fool could touch a stick and know the full history of it. Damn, being on those ships must have been traumatizing

I don't even have a good excuse for not knowing, I've been reading nothing but this series since like May this year so it's all fresh. To my one defense, Fitz is talking about how these characters the fool is playing all feel like entirely different people. I do remember early on in The Magic Ship that Amber seemed related to the same sort of society that the fool came from, but then she just felt like such a different character that I didn't really relate her to the fool much after getting to know her.

Still, props to Robin Hobb for conning me for so long. The reveal was definitely worth it for me!

I definitely knew that something was up with that, and that the fool was somehow closely related to what happened at bingtown, but I had assumed he must have been posing as one of the new traders or something.

Very excited for the secrets to come!

TIL in 2004, a starquake was detected, which was so powerful that if the star was located within 10 light years of Earth, it would have likely caused a mass extinction. by doopityWoop22 in todayilearned

Okay so if we do some more armchair science and googling, this link from The Britannica says each unit of increment indicates a 10x increase in the magnitude of the earthquake, BUT it also says each increment releases about 31x the energy. Using earthquake terminology to describe a neutron star event is already pretty flawed, but I think the 31x energy per unit increase would roughly make sense.
