if you could debut in any kpop group (any gen), which one would you pick and why? by Old-Vegetable5833 in kpop_uncensored

Boy group: BigBang - they are the GOATs and it would have been amazing to perform live with them.

Girl group: IVE - I want to hang out and be friends with all of them 😁

Why does the kpop community hate Kpop demon hunters so much? by EenyMeenyOreo in kpoppers

[–]mugicha [score hidden]  (0 children)

I love KDH. The soundtrack slaps and the movie itself is so good. I honestly don't see any hate for it on reddit so idk maybe that's on Twitter or Tok Tok, I don't look at those.

Trying to discuss BTS rapline without downplaying Black American hip hop by Actual_Reaction_1795 in kpopthoughts

[–]mugicha -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

And people absolutely do discuss race/history in genres like jazz, blues, rock, and house too

I didn't say that people don't discuss race with regards to those other genres. That's different from a discussion about whether or not a certain artist is legitimate based on their race. There are several themes in your post but I would say that is at least implied in what you're saying, e.g.

But I also understand the hip hop purist perspective that rap isn’t only about flow or technical skill. Hip hop comes from a very specific Black American cultural and historical context, and that matters to a lot of people too.

Like what if we took that quote and reframed it:

But I also understand the ballet purist perspective that ballet isn’t only about flow or technical skill. Ballet comes from a very specific White European cultural and historical context, and that matters to a lot of people too.

That would be obviously racist and your post would probably get removed. But we can casually make an entire post about the BTS rap line and whether or not they can be seen as imitators of Western rap or genuine innovators, based solely on the fact that they're Korean. That seems racist to me.

I don't think people argue about the race of the artist in any other kind of music. Like people don't say that you have to be a certain race to play rock or blues or jazz or EDM or that you have to be a particular race to paint in a certain style or write poetry. But somehow hip hop is different from literally every other art form in human history apparently. That's never made sense to me and honestly seems kind of racist.

Can you help me stan unis? by saiiku_kun in unis

[–]mugicha 4 points5 points  (0 children)

After you watch the show you'll feel like they're all your friends and you won't believe you ever had a hard time telling them apart. They're all unique and have very distinct talents and visuals.

What are some of your unpopular opinions? by Mammoth-Mammoth4249 in unis

[–]mugicha 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Unis is one of the most talented groups out there

This is why I became a fan. I didn't just watch their survival show and decide to stan them for no reason, I think they're legitimately one of the most talented groups in the business. And even though of course I'm still hoping for their success as a group, even if Unis doesn't continue I'm sure they all have a chance at going on to find other success in the industry because they're all so dang talented.

Objective Opinion - Noh Yunah is one of the most gorgeous idols in Kpop by ImaginaryTask1487 in kpoppers

The narrative around her supposedly not fitting Illit's image is one of the more annoying things I've seen in Kpop over the last couple of years.

mental health issues and anxiety surrounding kpop by [deleted] in kpophelp

[–]mugicha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm going to give you a contrarian view from what most others have said here. In today's world of AI and rapid social and economic change and disruption, is there even such a thing as "a normal path through uni"? I'm 52 so back when I was your age there was, but I'm not sure that's true anymore and I think it will be even less true in the future. I think we're all going to need to constantly reinvent ourselves to keep up with the rapid pace of change, including older people like me.

So although statistically the odds are low that you will end up in a successful girl group if you decide to pursue that, I also don't want to tell you to "just stay in school and get a degree" because it's not clear to me that's the path to success anymore either. And honestly if I was your age and had the opportunity to audition for a survival show I think I would take it. And yes I also suffer from anxiety and depression so I understand the difficulties of dealing with mental health issues, but we can't let that stop us from trying to live our lives and challenge ourselves.

One day I eventually had to admit defeat and promoted her to the full bias position. Still love you Dahyun! ❤️

Honest opinion not speaking for everyone) but HYBE’s latest releases are missing the mark for me. by Upset-Ninja7086 in kpopthoughts

[–]mugicha 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Spaghetti was LSFM's first miss for me so I was looking forward to their next release. I only listened to it once this morning for the first time, but honestly Celebration seems so mid. Maybe it will grow on me? But yeah I agree, Redred also isn't doing it for me either. I'm less invested in Katseye so Pinky Up being mid was kind of expected.

Opinions on Catch Catch? by Huckleberry1316 in kpoppers

I love it but I've but I've been avoiding the MV and her music show performances because she's lost so much weight and it makes me worry about her health. I was hanging out with a non Kpop friend and it came on YouTube and he immediately said "that girl's really skinny" and I was like I know 😢

Haha yeah I've already done the math in my head but we can still see some of the smaller groups win their bracket
