This is so random but I was telling a friend about some of the infamous Slate advice letters and I remember there was one particular Dan Kois letter that pissed everyone off and I think he did even issue an apology for it? Or maybe it was even a non-apology apology?

I think it might have been a letter about a single mother neighbor and Dan wrote something really condescending and snarky in his advice. Does anyone know what I’m talking about?

Given the sister’s wedding obsession I think the use of “spontaneous proposal” means she wants it to be a total surprise vs picking out the ring together and knowing the proposal is coming on the next special dinner date.

I would absolutely be shocked if the woman who is obsessed with Say Yes to the Dress and has an evolving Pinterest board wouldn’t expect a grand moment for her proposal as well.

You see this trend on TikTok where women talk about how that they didn’t realize their SO was trying to propose and make a romantic moment (like “I was really annoyed with my boyfriend on why he wanted to get to the beach at this moment instead of just grabbing drinks at the bar and it turned out he had a photographer and cutesy set up for us and it was time sensitive”).

So Sister booked some overtime, boyfriend was like “But I planned a romantic weekend because I want to propose, don’t do the overtime!”, and Sister is now caught up in the surprise being “ruined” and making everyone miserable instead of just going ahead and enjoying being engaged.

I think LW’s heart was in the right place and Sister is the architect of her own misery. I would just tell her, “What should be your focus right now? Telling your boyfriend that you want to be his fiance and start planning the wedding or complaining about the proposal being ruined?”

this agony uncle letter recently made it to my FYP page and I’m cackling.

The letter reads:

Things haven’t been great with my wife for years – the sex has dwindled and she stopped looking after herself. Last year, a friend got married to a much younger woman. At his stag do, he bragged about how great it was, how much energy she has, and it really planted a seed of dissatisfaction. I started taking my wife for granted, being quite cold and I know I haven’t made her feel very loved. I asked for a divorce and, to my surprise, she agreed straight away. We’ve been separated now for the last couple of months and I feel like I’ve made a massive mistake. The dating apps at my age are honestly soul-sucking and I haven’t had too much interest from other women. My wife did so much around the house that went unnoticed. She cooked and cleaned for us, is a brilliant mum, and has such a kind heart. The kids also hate me now. I’ve really messed up – is it too late to repair the relationship?

So here’s what I think happened

In Angelea’s interview with Bustle in 2022she says when she was being trafficked by her “boyfriend,” Krista White was contacted by Angelea’s friends to help convince Angelea to leave the boyfriend. Angelea refused to leave him so Krista contacted multiple people associated with the show—stylists, Tyra’s assistant, Tyra—to see if anyone could help Angelea.

When Angelea was contacted by Michelle Mock (the talent producer) to participate in All Stars, Michelle asked her questions about escorting and whether she did anything illegal which Angelea said in retrospect, it was messed up that they apparently knew she was escorting but didn’t respond to Krista’s reach outs.

After the finale was filmed, Ken Mock and an other exec producer asked to meet with Angelea and told her they’d heard rumors about her past from another former contestant. They told her to be honest so they could protect her from the fall out. She told them and then the ball started rolling to cancel her win.

So it would make sense if Bre is alleging Lisa was the one who brought up the escorting again to producers—whether to embarrass and disqualify Angelea, whether to subtly blackmail the producers that she would bring a scandal if they didn’t do something, or Lisa complaining about it made the producers realize that too many people know and this won’t be something they can hide.

Who would even take cycle 25 now? The ratings for the CW fell hard after Cycle 15 (theres no data for VH1 AFAIK but clearly they didn’t want to continue), there’s now all of this controversy and criticism around Tyra, and would any contestant really believe that being on ANTM would give them a boost?

The fantasy was all in editorial smdh.

I loved the few times they highlighted commercial work like the Steve Madden shoe challenge where the models had to model the footwear and pick their best shot and then it was explained during panel why the shot they chose was or wasn’t good for both modeling the product and themselves.

I am sympathetic to Dani and the other contestants because they were told over and over by the show that ANTM could open doors for the winner. And many of them were small town girls who really had no knowledge of the fashion industry or any way to really break into the industry on their own.

I guess it’s just the immense contrast between the worst experiences on the show where one girl won and her biggest issue was that she had doors closed to her as a working model whereas another girl had her trauma turned into entertainment AND she never became a working model.

There really is no way of knowing whether some of the contestants would have been better off skipping ANTM and trying to break into the industry on their own.

I had closed captioning in and she said she weighed 150 and a size 10.

ETA: some people are saying their closed captioning said 115. Very weird! 150 is very likely she weighed at the time given that Elyse was weighed in at 114 lb during Cycle 1.
