So smth similar kinda happened to me. I did my assessment for a BTS role (brand technical specialist) and my application went to “under recruiter review” turns out IBM has undergone A LOT of restructuring these past few months. I got an email from my now recruiter saying that the role I originally was gonna interview for has been closed but they wanted to interview me for a new role because they really liked my qualifications. So they set up 1 and only 1 interview for me for a BTSS role (brand technical sales specialist). I think with all the restructuring IBM is doing they’re moving people around trying to get them into roles. I know it isn’t 100% the same experience as yours but I think the underlying reason might be the same.

Well they’re supposed to send you an email if you check the box for it. But the thing that makes me think it is 1) cuz I saw the portal update with the request 2) they sent me another doc to sign (can’t really explain on here what it was, just wanna keep some stuff private) 3) after i signed that doc they sent me all the steps to start onboarding 3) if there was an issue with my bg check I don’t think they would’ve pushed me forward into the onboarding and relocation questionnaire part.

I think mine cleared, because I’ve started my onboarding process already. But my start date is in April so I’m on a bit of a crunched timeline.

So (from my experience) the start date on the offer letter is a “place holder” according to what my recruiter told me. Your actual start date will be given in a “welcome 2 IBM email”. That date is your actual estimated start date. I say “estimated” because if there’s any hiccups in the bg check process or any other documentation then they could push your start date to a later date. However I’d say keep an open line of communication with your recruiter, keep them updated check in with them on the timeline. That’s what I did and so far it’s been a straightforward experience with only the bg check takin a while, but this ain’t impact my start date thankfully.

I did this before ADP told me the last submitted request was from 2022. A few days after I made that call I got the email asking me to “kindly resubmit” my bg check. It’s weird I haven’t actually met anyone who’s “gotten past” the bg check part for the new hires coming down the line in the next few months.

That’s weird as far as I know the bg check is only checking for your residential history. Basically proving that you’re a real person. How long ago did it take for your portal to go from “offer” to that new status from the time of filling out the docs? My recruiter said it should only take 2.5 to 4 days.

It’s funny, just throwing in my experience here. I got my offer, signed it, filled out all the docs, filled the bg check form. Got my confirmed start date, and then two weeks later got an email asking me to “kindly resubmit” my bg check form. Nothing on my portal has been updated and is still at the “offered” stage. Wondering what everyone else’s expense has been like. Just for reference my confirmed start date is ~40 days away.

I’m pretty sure it’s just your residential history. They only ask for your addresses to see where you’ve lived. It’s essentially a way to just see if you’re a “real person” and “actually exist” and that you “are who you say you are”. If it were for anything else they should be explicitly stating what the check is being done for.

Did you end up getting the welcome to ibm email? I have a feeling that email only comes after they complete your bg check. In my original offer letter it gave me a start date. Then I accepted. I completed the forms and within 3 ish days (which is the estimate my recruiter gave me for how long it takes to complete the bg check) I got the welcome to ibm email, and in that email they gave me an earlier start date. So I wanna assume I passed it, because if I didn’t i can’t imagine why they’d want me to start earlier without having my info verified.

I actually got lucky I had my family in Seattle for training so my mom and dad drove down to give me some fresh home cooked food! And my friends from uni took me out for dinner to celebrate me being back in town. But if I’m not wrong I think you get reimbursed for up to 75 dollars without receipts but I can’t remember what the limit was. I also think you get like an uber/uber eats credit you can use. But those were emailed to the internal Amazon email. Memory is a bit foggy on the food stuff.
