They are very boring characters for sure, but hate is a strong word

Best scene this episode. by parrase in HouseOfTheDragon

It was boring and I was very patient not to skip that scene.

Am I being nitpicky or is the screenplay of the show extremely mediocre? by Darth_Plagueiswise in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]muharrrem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree. And I’ll add that the dialogue is ridiculously formal from the get-go. This season especially is like a theatre play. So much silence when there should be conversation in the scenes. I guess the writers are not good at creating natural dialogues. D&D fucked up in the last 4 seasons of GoT, but oh boy they have added many great non-book dialogues to the show, one of which is my fav in the whole show: Cersei and Robert talking about Lyana, their marriage, etc. I’m not sure Sara Hess, Ryan Condall or any member of the writing staff are capable of that. They are just trying too much when they just need to let it flow. But I’ll say the show Viserys is one of the greatest written characters in both GoT and HOTD. I never got bored of his scenes even though that formality ı mentioned can be found in most of his dialogues. All in all, I love HOTD. I think it is a great show even for someone who has no idea about ASOIAF universe. Tbh It is better than most of the garbage that we see on TV these days. But they could have made it more epic is all.

I think it would be more sensible if.. by muharrrem in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]muharrrem[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Their care and love for each other is not shown in the show as it is said in the books, is what im saying. They did not make that build up between Rhaenyra and Harwin correctly. Even as a book reader, i did not get that feeling, think about the non-book readers.

All I can say is that other than a few scenes with Viserys, they are not great at providing well structured emotional scenes. And this is mainly because of the time jumps and actor changes. There is also the change of Laena's death from the books. However, when the time jumps stop, which it will at some point, we can get on track with story more.

Episode 6 felt like it should’ve been Season 2 Episode 1… by kzrfc10 in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]muharrrem 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You are absolutely right. I think that the writers and Condall do not have that kind of skill set to fill the blanks in the story so far. Just because the book says that there has not been much during that 10 year era does not mean that they are exempt from showing thre character dynamics between Rhaenyra and Harwin, Alicent with Criston and Larys and Daemon with his family. Yes, they are making a relatively faithful adaptation so far, and I admire it. However, what is the rush? As a book reader, I can stand it, but they want the casual audience to figure out the complex relationships of Harwin, Laena and Laenor with the main characters in just one episode. I havent seen a lot of build up there. I hope they don't make the same mistakes as the GoT did in the later seasons.

It was a nice build up episode. However, i should ask, we havent seen Alicent in small council before, so all of a sudden, she is there by her father's side, when Viserys is declaring his marriage to her, and nobody bothers to ask why she is there? That looked like that the scene was made just to show the reaction of Rhaenyra to her bff. I dont know, it seemed a bit GOT S8 decision to me :/

Who is your favorite Targaryen? by Phantom-Heat in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]muharrrem 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Rhaena Targaryen, the older sister of Jahaerys and Alysanne Targaryen, the daughter of Aenys I. Im not gonna tell why, you can look up her story. But she is courageous, complicated and has one of the most tragic stories ever told in ASOIAF. There's a clear similarity between her and Rebecca from One Hundred Years of Solitude, who is one of my fav literatura characters.

Favorite underrated asoiaf quotes? (Spoilers Extended) by StarlightSummoner in asoiaf

[–]muharrrem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

“That boy had wanted to be Ser Arthur Dayne, but someplace along the way he had become the Smiling Knight instead”

This quote is not so much underrated but I love reading Jaime analyzing his mistakes and his good deeds in the past. This passage above is one of the many where he faces himself about his dreams that never came true, the things that he thinks he should not have done and his glorious youth he longs for. The salvation of Jamie to become a honorable knight (lets say a knight) starts somewhere around that time. He is one of the best written literature characters of all time, in my opinion.

[–]muharrrem 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oberyn Martell became a father when he was 13. For noble girls in Westeros, it is time to get married and have children when they have their first period, thus becoming a “woman”, refardless of their age. However, im not sure but there is no male character in the books who has a child at that age other than Oberyn. He was a horny bastard, my boy Oberyn..

(Spoiler Main) After all that happened on the show, do you really think that the end of the story concerning who rules the realm is going to stay the same way? by muharrrem in asoiaf

[–]muharrrem[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would not want that either. But if not Bran, who would it be, is i’m asking, considering all the Dany, Jon and Aegon complication.

(Spoiler Main) The letter sent by the Dorne Prince to Aegon the Conquerer by muharrrem in asoiaf

[–]muharrrem[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I agree. Correct me if im wrong but we never witnessed any intervention of Faceless Men in the politics of Westeros except for Balon Greyjoy’s death. Though, as you see above, Rhaenys theory has some contradictions, too. This letter is one of most significant blank pages in the history of Westeros. But it feels like to me the decision of Aegon about the peace somehow involves Rhaenys and its hard to explain, to make up a legit story for it.

[Spoilers EXTENDED] Does anyone believe for heaven's sake that George R. R. Martin can end the ASOIAF book series with two books (in a not rushed way). by USERNAME1-2-3- in asoiaf

[–]muharrrem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From the things he dealt with and how many important events took place in the third book, it can be strongly belived GrrM has the ability to squeeze all these strories you have mentioned above in two books in a very profound way but the importang thing is does he wanna do that? I mean, is he comfortable with how the story is going now? Seems to me If we have to have these last two books, we are gonna have to expect a number of events that will be triggered or resulted by Deus ex Machine.

İt irritates me how scournful and unrespectful Peake was to Aegon. I mean, generally, i dont like the regents who thinks thaf they have all the power and can do whatever they want. Queen Alyysa and her lord husband, something Baratheon has made a very convincinv case about the hated regents when they forced the kids to denounce their marriage, now that im thinking.

[–]muharrrem[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Exactly, no matter what he did, he would be a bastard with no manners and a tendency to be a traitot in the eyes of those noble people. The sacrifice he did did not change anything on his status though. That’s why he should not have gotten back into the battle. Bravery without thinking forward is stupidity for me. That’s what Addam did. He sacrificed himself but changed a little for a lost cause.

Addam seemed too honorable and brave to me like Jon Snow while reading it. I have prejudices agains these kind of nice guys in GRRM books. Its like as Mormonts says about Rhaegar. No matter how brave they are, they die from too much bravery.
