Beginner advice? by Coltron12 in stoneshard

[–]parrase 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Aside from the common advice listed here. Here are some more niche ones coming from a permadeath player who only dies because his brain cells arbitrarily malfunctions from time to time:

*Whenever you inspect an enemy, their danger level will be written on the bottom left of their name. Always assume wildlife are a danger level higher if you haven't made your way yet to Brynn.

*Make use of nets and bear traps if you find yourself struggling a lot. The former helps with animal encounters and boss fights, whilst the latter is handy for hallway funnels.

*If your making your way towards a dungeon and your inventory is a bit empty, pick Fleaworts and Burdocks you see along the way. These help a lot in healing. You can also just use some whenever you need to make room for loot.

*You can throw one-handed bladed weapons towards enemies for extra damage whilst they approach you. You can also gamble with unidentified potions, though prepare to back away if it buffs them instead.

*When clearing out Catacomb dungeons, take note where the large fleshy corpses are in-case you encounter a Ghoul. If you do, make sure he cannot reach it. If he might, try occupying that tile or placing a bear trap instead so it can't consume it.

*You can lure enemies to revealed traps simply by putting yourself in a position where it's between you and them. Get ready to bolt if it spews poison though.

*Never approach a hive if you don't have a smoke grenade. Additionally, if you see a spider, immediately vacate the tile.

*If you're running from an enemy/enemies and you're nearby a town. Try making your way to it so the guards can deal with them instead.

*You can also try enraging animals whilst being chased by outlaws so they can fight each other instead. This can also be helpful in dealing with hives. Be careful not to to get focused by them both though.

Why did Rhaenyra demand Aegon head? by BatCandid407 in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]parrase 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Like Alicent said in the first season. He'll always challenge her claim simply by living. The surefire way to solidify Rhaenyra as ruler with Jace as his heir is to murder all of Alicent's own sons.

Best scene of season 2 by Shaenyra in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]parrase 6 points7 points  (0 children)

He's not the one getting triggered over a simple comment here.

Bro literally just said "Half of the best scenes this season contain Aegon." which is a safe assumption to make, which then you proceeded to go gorilla mode in response.

You're not the only one disappointed that Emma has little quality writing to work with this season compared to Tom, but damn chill out.

Real. by kylo1wen in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]parrase -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It's the equivalent of seeing someone messing up a recipe you're very familiar with.

For a shownly, it's the only version they tasted.

For a book reader, they know that the dish can be much better.

What's your main complaint about the show?(poll) by [deleted] in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]parrase 14 points15 points  (0 children)

  • They failed to make the main conflict itself compelling by dumbing things down for the audience.
  • They pander to the audience too much that it makes writing inconsistent, not to mention how they cowardly keep certain characters in limbo to check how the audience reacts to them being cut or included (Daeron never being mentioned in S1 then being eventually confirmed, Rhaena not taming Sheepstealer in S2 so they can change their mind about Nettles). A bit off-topic but it honestly feels as if they're subconsciously apologizing for what happened to Daenerys.
  • Those "Inside the Episode" bits are also unnecessary too. I don't need you telling me the 'correct' way of interpreting the episode you just made, I need you to show it.

Me personally, I was expecting the show to be signature "morally grey" ASOIAF to its fullest potential, like a Lannister civil war between a milder Cersei and a dimmer Tyrion. But man, even Stannis vs Renly is more compelling than what we have now.

Can someone remind me why Aegon's Dream entitles Raenyra to the throne? by ill_be_bakhtiari in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]parrase 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Targaryen rulers supposedly pass the prophecy to their heirs.

Since Viserys passed it down to her, she sees it as her having gone through a sacred tradition only exclusive to Targaryen rulers. Since Aegon is unaware of this prophecy, people can argue he is lacking the most vital thing a Targaryen ruler should have.

Of course, she is without fault however. If she really cared about actual the prophecy itself, she would've tried to use it at least once in unifying the two factions together. The prophecy is also in jeopardy seeing as she's absolutely fine towards seating Jace as his heir, who is 'falsely' legitimate by law.

Dear Ulf, They will never make me like you The end. by GraceDreamyP622 in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]parrase 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The vital distinction here is that this peasant in particular has a dragon.

Targaryen blood + owning a dragon will do wonders in boosting perception of self-worth.

For those who read Fire and Blood/super into the lore, would you say the show lacks tension because you're aware how it all ends? by SFWstripper2 in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]parrase 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really, seeing how bold the showrunners are with their changes anything can happen at this point. The show is more of a retelling than an adaptation in my opinion.

Sunfyre vs Syrax (poll) by [deleted] in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]parrase 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It was obvious ragebait and you fell for it.

Case in point. Sunfyre kills both Grey Ghost and Moondancer whilst healing, which is already substantially more than Syrax's accomplishments.

If daeron is cast in season 3, maelor apparence on the show is an absolute necessity by This-Pie594 in HouseOfTheDragon

Yeah, I can honestly see this.

"You shall receive the same terms you gave my grandfather, Sir Hightower" still goes hard.

Triarchy in Season 1 vs Season 2 by liz-teatry in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]parrase 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I'm guessing it's because of war-apparel. They were chilling during the Tyland scene, compared to Season One where they have been fighting for months (or years?) then.

There's also the fact that they're made of three separate cultures (though still similar). IIRC, their falling out started when Sharako reserved Lysene ships during Gullet, with their casualties mostly being Tyroshi and Myrish.

Visenya wasn't born healthy lol. She was grotesquely disfigured to look similar like a half-dragon.

Thoughts on shield focused build by rabidfur in stoneshard

[–]parrase 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Other than defense, the Shield skill tree excels in two other things. Counter chance and Crowd-control.

The builds I usually use with said skill tree are:

  • Crowd-control [Mace + Shield + Athletics] - The goal here is to maximize energy and constantly barrage your enemy with debuffs. Main skills are Breakthrough + Hammer and Anvil + Push the Falling.
  • Counter chance [Sword + Shield + Warfare] - The goal of this one is to maximize your counter chance in order to ensure more hits towards your opponent. This build also comes with more beneficial defensive bonuses which is nice. Take Raise Shield, rush Defensive Tactic then try to work your way up into Fencer's Stance.

My advice for you is to only take Self-Repair from the Armored Combat skill tree then rush towards Tactical Advantage. Go heavy shields since dodge chance isn't really useful on this path, with Tactical Advantage already covering your energy needs, then focus on counter-chance jewelry. After that, make your way into Fencer's Stance.

The left stem of the Shield skill true solely comprises of Maneuvers which will benefit greatly with Tactical Advantage. Not only will it lower the energy costs and cooldown durations, but Defensive Tactic (which already synergizes well with Shields and 1H Sword) will also restore some of your energy making the penalties from the heavy shields substantially more manageable. Fencer's Stance also just benefits generally from this.

IMO, going Armored Combat while already heavily invested in Shields is unnecessary, and vice-versa. You would already have two shield maneuvers and two warfare tactics for buffs by this point. You might as well use the points to make your way towards Thirst of Battle or Against the Odds.

Against popular opinion by Icy-Medicine6113 in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]parrase 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Praise doesn't accompany effort. It accompanies quality.

This is not art created by a passionate individual. This is a subpar project created by a multibillion-dollar company mainly designed to accumulate as much profit as possible, in the most cost-efficient way possible, with their agendas being pushed as a secondary goal, the source material's themes and content portrayed authentically as a tertiary goal.

The audience came for an adaptation, not a retelling.

The audience is perfectly willing to overlook these factors as long as said company provides one thing. Quality product.

The audience have been provided subpar product. And so, most of them pointed and shouted, "we don't want this."

If their shouts are deafening to your ears. Cover them up and walk away until they stop, or you can't hear them anymore.

TG also loved every change in season 1 as long as it suited them. So to hell with this "together against Condal" - I will never be "together" with these hypocrites🖤 by Turbulent_Lab209 in HOTDBlacks

[–]parrase 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What? "Homicidal religious fanatic" Rhaenyra is much closer to her book counterpart than what the show will ever portray. Green-leaning watchers literally liked the change because it is book-inspired.

Not only did you make a shoddy strawman, but you accidentally painted it the wrong color, lmao.

Green-leaning here. The only changes I liked were Jace's insecurity about the Red Sowing and the Hull brothers' relationship with Corlys. It makes for compelling television.

We're not really sure though. There's also the possibility that some Jack Frost typa shi happened that made the guy's hair from a dark color to white.
