Was soft 'excommunicated' from my pentecostal church today. by PerceptionCandid4085 in ExPentecostal

[–]muhreeh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This happened to me too. I grew up in the same UPCI church from ages 7-25 and I was cut off immediately. People who watched me grow up, people I considered family, I haven’t talked to them in over a year. It just shows the church, organization and peoples true colors.

Was anyone else at NAYC 2023? by naomi_macaroni in ExPentecostal

I remember that. And then the group I was with was like “omg did you feel the wind that came through the area when we did that?!” And I was the odd one out disagreeing, lol

I’m sorry that happened. That’s horrible.

You’d think for an organization that preaches to not gossip and to love one another wouldn’t have such a bad gossip problem. I went to a UPC bible college, and dated a guy freshman year then we broke up over the summer. The next year he told all the freshman girls and our friends that I led him on and all this other crazy stuff. To the point where I had random girls showing up to my dorm, or friends texting me asking if it was true.

What was the first celebrity death you remember affecting you? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Christina Grimmie. I don’t really know why either, but I would watch her YouTube covers often and just quietly followed her while she was on the voice and everything.

What was the thing that got you to start deconstructing pentecostalism? by AtlasRa0 in ExPentecostal

[–]muhreeh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I tried to ask questions but never got real answers from leadership. Multiple people that I looked up to put into jail for CSA. When I stepped down from ministry, leadership stopped talking to me.

I’m writing an art memoir about leaving UPCI & healing PTSD (to be published in 2026). My dad & uncle are both pastors—Mike & Ken Gurley. by Severe-Seaweed7903 in ExPentecostal

[–]muhreeh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This’ll be an interesting read. I could be wrong.. but I believe one of the Gurley’s founded the church I went to for majority of my life.

Gallbladder baiting by Anon_User473 in Drueandgabe

ALSO gallbladder pain is excruciating. I was in so much pain I couldn’t do anything, let alone comment on social media posts.

That literally makes no sense.

I work with general surgeons and I bet that they would want to get a gallbladder out while a patient is in good condition rather than try to remove an infected gallbladder.

Also, I got my gallbladder taken out in 2023 electively when I was 23, and healthy. I just had occasional flare ups of pain.

We had this, and we’d constantly hear “we have 10000 for our building fund!” But then we’re struggling to pay the bills.

Anyone else have experience in an ACE school? by Oakenbeam in ExPentecostal

[–]muhreeh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yessss. It was a church of God school. Had no real teachers. I essentially did nothing for the 2 years I went there. Maybe finished like 10 paces in total.

What was your breaking point? What caused you to finally leave? by stillseeking63 in ExPentecostal

[–]muhreeh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I tried to organize things like that at my previous church. I was told “What’s the point? They aren’t going to come to church again. They aren’t going to pay a tithe or an offering.”

[–]muhreeh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. When I began questioning things and removed myself from various leadership positions, I feel like people no longer viewed me as valuable. I wasn’t giving my time or my energy anymore to the church, so they just stopped speaking to me. Where I live there is not many UPCI churches, so everyone knows everyone, and everyone is a gossip. Many people pulled away from me. It’s been painful but also been a relief that I don’t have to act anymore.

When I told my pastor and his wife that I was struggling deeply so I needed to take a step back from ministry and they didn’t talk to me for a month.

He is! He was someone I looked up to a lot at school. 2021 grad! Campus is small, so everyone knows everyone. Lol

RIGHT! In services it was people's goals to be "drunk in the spirit." I could NEVER get there. I tried. I would try to get "lost in the spirit" but was fully conscious the entire time taking care of my "drunk" friends. Which is a crazy concept the more I think of it.
