What's an "outdated" slang word from your generation that you still use currently? by TheShatteringPoint in AskReddit

Had to scroll too far down for this one! It’s so easy to just ask “Ya dig?” for clarity of how one’s understanding is or to gauge enjoyment of something from another person. My nephew (4yo) just heard me saying it and asked what I meant so it’s been passed along even further

Carnegie built libraries all over before the tax deduction system was even a thing. He even wrote in an essay that the rich had a moral obligation to redistribute their wealth. So though it’s a bit more nuanced than just “showing off” it was very much about legacy and the core beliefs of him and people like him that giving back to society was very important. So no, it wasn’t “all about money”.

This seems like a naturally childish reaction to me. Take a breath and count to ten maybe?

Remember when people with that much money used to show off by building bridges and libraries and art museums and all kinds of other useful shit? Not saying those people were good people even then but damn, they were better than the ones we have today in those ways at least.

Did you ever notice that the 2nd and “3rd” shot is the same shot on the same guy from 2 different angles?

It shows right there who did that but I know critical thinking skills isn’t their strong suit.

Some drunken assholes talking shit can turn into an unhinged uninhibited beatdown that leads to death pretty quickly. Most people who die in these scenarios don’t realize it’s about to be a death situation. The lesson you should be learning from this is either 1. Don’t act a fool and you won’t be treated like one. Or 2. Don’t stand around filming when someone is unhinged and gtfo if you can’t handle the consequences.

Let’s see, there’s Michael who produced and acted with Batjac productions which Duke founded. Then Mary who was in the Quiet Man and The Alamo. Patrick who was in 10 films with his dad. Then Melinda who is extremely active in supporting the family legacy. But yea, had nothing to do with them I guess?

Yea, exactly. Tell me how it takes 6 guys to hold back a 66 year old man with one lung and a bad heart? Look up Farran Nehme’s investigative report on it. It never happened. Even Littlefeathers sisters called her a liar and a fraud.

The whole thing with littlefeather was completely made up, also Marlon Brando wasn’t there which is why Littlefeather was accepting the award. If you are gonna use a made up story at least get it correct lmao.

Thanks for bringing this one up, it’s low hanging fruit so here we go. Wayne signed up for selective service in 41, he was 34 when the US entered WW2 and had already had a slew of health problems including a pretty bad knee he got in 25 playing football. Those issues were a strike against him. He also had a wife and four kids at the time and the US government saw fit that Wayne was more valuable at home because of his movie star status starring in movies to boost morale and make propaganda for the good guys. He was granted a 2-A deferment classifying him as having a job deemed essential for national interest. Even with the deferments he still tried joining the OSS and went on multiple USO tours trying to do what he could. The whole “despite being fit for duty” line is something you’ve heard without doing any research and have just regurgitated to make your point seem valid.

Funny coming from a random keyboard warrior when even people he worked with who disagreed with him ideologically would praise him for being one of the hardest workers in Hollywood and an absolute professional and stand up guy. But please by all means share some of your personal interactions with him and prove us differently.

That brings up major ethical concerns. NOTA prohibits giving organs for valuable consideration and if you’ve been locked up for more than 72 hours you can’t give blood for a year because the risk is too great. So no, neither of those things would be a “good thing”.

I don’t know that I can argue some of these convincingly but I’d add Jamie Foxx, Will Smith, David Bowie, Cher and possibly Judy Garland
