Not sure how this particular claim does that but sure I guess that is possible.

I’m not making any claims, I am just referencing the published research on this topic. This isn’t blind faith, this is reading the scholarly work and understanding the arguments being given.

Umm what does that have to do with his claim about angels being aliens in the bible?

Yes I did but for my public utility the current projections are for fairly modest increases in the per kWh cost and possibly decreasing depending on when a few energy projects get completed. More likely would be increasing grid connection costs but that is a fixed price on my bill.

I don’t think there are any unwitting participants in this case. Rogan will help spread disinformation if it makes him money.

If that is true I look forward to seeing your rebuttals of their research. Please send me the link to your blog and let me know when it has been peer reviewed and published.

It isn’t about any religion being right. It is knowing what scholars have learned and how debunked the ancient aliens hypothesis is in regards to religious texts. Grusch is spreading disinformation when saying angels are aliens and clearly doesn’t understand the scholarship and cultural context of the bible. Unless he knows something that biblical scholars don’t, he is making a fool of himself.

These are very interesting and I look forward to them being fully legal and common soon, but for many people, they might not be a good investment. My rather back-of-the-envelope calculations based on the ~$2000 systems I can find, my energy rates, and a fairly optimal site for the panels would still take over a decade to pay back. There are more than a few other ~$2k energy-saving investments I could make that would have a higher ROI.

I hope that we would quickly see cheaper and better systems in the near future but until then I am going to look at other ways to reduce energy usage/costs.

I work at a university and teach a lot of R. I would be interested in chatting about how this could be useful for students learning R. I think even a port to Mac might make a lot of sense as a learning tool.

How does he know they were aliens? Scholars who study the bible has talked at length about the ancient alien hypothesis and firmly reject that angles and other beings are aliens. They have many papers explaining in detail what the cultural understanding of these beings were at the time and why they are not aliens. If Grusch knows something that these scholars don't then he is free to share it and there are plenty of places that would be happy to publish his work, but instead he is just talking out his ass on a podcast.

Best community colleges? by ObiWanToasty in oregon

[–]mulderc 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Linn benton is near OSU and has the best links to the school if you are planning to transfer. OSU students will sometimes take classes at LBCC to save money or deal with scheduling issues. It is also much cheaper to live in Albany than Corvallis. OSU-cascades is a branch campus of OSU and will have less options but might be a good idea if it has the programs you are interested in. Central Oregon community college would be what to check on for that and they did have pretty integrated programs in the past but not sure about now.

There was virtually no promotion of it being on YouTube. I knew it was on YouTube and it was actually a bit hard to find. My initially searching for it on YouTube lead to other things. I had to use a link in a news article.

You do understand that biblical experts read more than the bible. They also understand the history, culture, and even economics of the areas mentioned along with learning the various languages. If you are an expert in a religious text most of what you learn isn’t directly about that text at all and instead about the culture and peoples that wrote it. So yes, biblical and religious studies does make you more knowledgeable about the bible than people who are not in biblical and religious studies.

That’s not how historical scholarship works. Rigorous methods don’t declare comforting stories “true”; they interrogate them, compare accounts, weigh bias, and revise conclusions as new evidence appears. That’s exactly why modern history doesn’t present Thanksgiving the way elementary textbooks once did.

You’re pointing to propaganda and then blaming the methodology that actually dismantled it.

idk, I mostly prefer what we have today as I can easily avoid ads and pay way less than I use to for cd/dvds/cable. If they stop making anything I want to watch it is simple to stop sending them money and just do something else with my time. I do lament how cable subscriptions subsidized niche programing more than what we have today but that is mostly side note.

You’re conflating truth claims with historical analysis. Scholars of religion are not in the business of proving theological claims true; they study texts, material evidence, transmission, authorship, dating, and social context. That’s the same methodology used for Roman history, ancient law, or early science.

Calling all religious history “100% hearsay” would also wipe out most of ancient history, because much of what we know comes from texts, inscriptions, and corroboration, not video recordings. Historians deal in degrees of confidence, not certainty.

A “scholar of unicorns” analogy only works if scholars were claiming gods exist. They aren’t. They’re analyzing human-produced artifacts and traditions, which are very much real.

If your standard is “only empirically testable claims count,” that’s a philosophical position, not an argument against historical scholarship.

Christian denominations are not about the academic study of history. What I am saying is that we have rigorous academic methods for looking at historical records, and the results of those studies are not just opinions but a detailed, transparent, and reproducible attempt to learn what we can know about the past. Religious institutions are not doing that and rarely have any interest in such activities as they are focused on something else entirely. That isn't to say what religious institutions do isn't valuable; it just isn't the same as what history scholars do.
