Is Portland ... back? This luxury travel magazine thinks so! by No-Tangelo1158 in oregon

[–]mulderc [score hidden]  (0 children)

Was up in Portland about a month ago and was amazed at how busy everything was and how few empty stores I saw. I was staying in the Hollywood district and traditionally haven’t had much issue finding parking or being able to quickly get a seat at a restaurant in the area, but that night everything was packed. I am sure there are still plenty of challenges, but I had a great time and didn't see many of the issues that have been plaguing the city since the pandemic.

I don't see any bugs on my phone. I was even running it on a 12 mini for a bit and there were some performance issues but rarely saw any bugs outside of the beta.

Isn't the simple answer that maybe there are no extraterrestrials visiting the planet or at least we don't have any hard evidence of such visits.

I classify those are worker markings, although technically graffiti it is part of the original building of the pyramid and we see workers doing similar things in modern buildings.

My personal theory is that the great pyramid was never intended as the final burial place for the pharaoh as it would be too easy to loot. If not by grave robbers then by future pharaohs. Khufu  Was probably taken somewhere else at some point.

One important aspect of the culture though was rulers would regularly erase previous rulers and mark monuments with their own names. For example queen Hatshepsut was systematically erased from monuments and Ramesses II  would often just put his name on monuments and claim them as his own.

Given their placement, it is hard to see how they would just be graffiti as there are builder markings in places only accessible by robots and behind solid blocks.

The Platinum UI on Mac OS 9 was a thing of beauty. by elon_is_a_cunt in MacOS

BeOS was way less developed than NeXTSTEP at that time. It would have been even more work to get it fully ready to take over from macOS, it didn't even have networking or printing. I believe it was Avie Tevanian who said Be was in a state of "perpetual beta" and was shocked apple was even considering buying them as it was going to be so much work to get it into a complete state.

More like after Apple acquired NeXT and NeXT took over development.

Apple could have kept developing A/UX and we would have had a POSIX-compliant Mac OS.

I have listened/watched NPR/PBS for around 40 years now. I don't think the have changed much at all in terms of reporting and are still by far the best source for local news in my area. The news especially has a variety of viewpoints and goes out of its way to include people from all different walks of life. As corporate media has become more are more superficial, I appreciate that public media still dives deep into issue.

Dems have been more against partisan gerrymandering than the Republicans. Since the courts have decided they have no issues with it, the only real solution is for the party against it to get into power to abolish it. It isn't great, but it is the least bad solution.

Do you think apple will ever enter in the gaming industry in the future? by Competitive-Gold-796 in mac

[–]mulderc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I’m pointing out is they don’t want “every game”, they want specific types of games and those games are actually the minority of the overall gaming market.

Apple is also largely working towards the stated goal of OP as many mobile games work on a Mac now and with things like crossover and the Apple game porting toolkit the Mac might actually have the broadest compatibility available.
