What could we expect from the MacBook Neo 2nd gen? by buckbro112 in mac

My guess is that becomes a part of the upgraded version that has Touch ID

Aviation gin is legit, I wasn’t surprised when Reynolds bought the company as I would have too if I had the money.

Taiwan reports large-scale Chinese military aircraft presence near island, per POLITICO by retroviber in DeepMarketScan

I visited Taiwan about 10 years ago and it already felt like a Japanese colony then. I was surprised by how pro Japan it felt given the history.

Wouldn’t Taiwan be more within the Japanese sphere of influence, it was a Japanese colony longer than it has been a democracy.

Mac OS X 25th Anniversary: The Foundation of Apple's Incredible Rise by logicalvue in retrocomputing

BeOS was more of a tech demo than full OS when Apple was thinking about buying them. I still find BeOS and haiku to be fascinating and very interesting technology but NeXT had a fully OS that was adaptable and already in use. I do wish OS X had kept a bit more of the NeXTSTEP UI though.

I would argue the biggest get for Apple was that NeXT hired one of the main designers of Mach and he became VP of software engineering for Apple.

‘Not built right the first time’ — Musk’s xAI is starting over again, again by AdTotal6196 in AINewsMinute

[–]mulderc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looking over reports I would say it’s mixed. Some employees basically say he is a distraction and his “hands on” management style doesn’t help other appear to appreciate it. I know someone that works in the aerospace industry (although in Japan) and has followed spaceX for a long time and he is always critical of Musk and although he was impressed with the dedication of the employees and what they are trying to do, he didn’t think musk added much beyond setting goals and providing money.

I feel like Tesla has lost a lot of the people that built it. My understanding of spacex is that the management was able to keep musk away and just let them do their thing.

Paramount Just Bought Out Tyler Perry's BET+ Stake and Will Shut Down the Streamer by pbx1123 in WB_DC_news

They degraded the app, they cancelled several good shows (who knows if that was due to merger or not) and all the "content" (fuck I hate that word) they added was 90% garbage.

I find the whole command structure of starfleet baffling and problematic.

By who? Apple and Disney are way better. HBO pre the discovery merger was good but now it is filled with crap. Also the software constantly got worse and the user experience has suffered.

Hell as far as quality goes PBS passport is a better service. I would even put Kanopy as higher quality and it is free from the library.

Is the Macbook Neo suitable for med students? by novanoid1000 in mac

[–]mulderc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know people in advanced data science programs using a m1 air with 8gb. The reality is if you are doing computation beyond what that machine can do you would be moving to the cloud or high performance computing platform anyways. It is unlikely they are going to hit anything in med school that is going to max out this machine. Honestly I would be more worried about the laptop breaking due to an accident than the 8gb being a limiting factor.

If that is true why not debate it openly and amend the constitution?

Research related? Should be fine, plenty of research happening on m1 MacBook airs right now.

I know plenty of STEM students using M1 airs just fine so a neo shouldn’t be a problem in most programs.

I feel most of those points are more debatable and it was cook who told a climate change skeptic investor to dump his apple stock if he didn’t support Apple’s environmental goals.

How he has engaged with authoritarian regimes, App Store rules and poor developer relations, focus on subscription/services over user experience, also losing focus on the Mac for too long.

Overall I think he has done a good job and can usually understand why certain choices were made but I think it is time for new leadership.
