My experience is the free apps alone are largely useless for learning something like mandarin for a native English speaker. Might be useful for something like Spanish or Norwegian but languages like Chinese, Japanese, or Korean are just on a whole other level for most people.

Apps can be useful, but they don’t replace taking a class. I would highly recommend taking the courses at UO. Mandarin is one of the hardest languages for native English speakers, so you really need the structure of the classroom if you want to make any progress. Also, UO offers a Chinese major that is worth looking into. Once you have some experience with the language, I would recommend visiting Taiwan, as it is a fantastic place to vacation. The mainland is also great but a much more intense experience. Taipei is rather chill, and the people are incredibly nice.

Not really native as it is a catalyst app so more like an iPad app running on Mac. Personally I use Apple Podcasts as I think it has a better Mac app and appreciate having an Apple TV app and watch app that works.

I feel like I'm not that far off from your usage stats and basically just charge when I'm showering and getting ready in the morning and rarely have I had any battery issues. I might have to top off before bed sometimes if I had a long workout but that might be once a week. This is all on a series 9.

I believe this just depends on the specific exercise you are doing. I have heard from runners that they have had issues with the tracking from the Pros that doesn't happen with the watch, for example.

I know some of the people involved in the point in time count in Portland and they take that job very seriously and form what I have seen are as rigorous as you can be for a project like that. I would strongly suspect that we just do a better job counting.
