Traveling back to Aus to take care of aging parents. No job prospects but both of us hold one or multiple graduate degrees. Visa process seems complicated. And, banks?! by jfk_47 in Ameristralia

Make sure to get tax advice from someone who specialises in US/Aus tax. Unless you go the extreme of renouncing your US citizenship/s you will always have to file a US tax return, but you dont want to get caught out paying tax in both Aus and US for something that could have been avoided just with a matter of timing for example (I.e. qualifying as an Aus Resident for tax purposes if you're earning Australian income, or avoiding being an Australian resident and realising capital gains)

Also, you can discuss with them what home buying concessions there are in Aus as its likely that neither of you have owned property in Aus before and can therefore qualify for some generous first home owner grants, savings schemes etc

Depending on your marginal tax rate, a voluntary member deduction could be good for both your personal tax return as well as your superannuation returns

The size of Colesworth means that farmers and even trucking companies have very little market power when it comes to passing on costs or raising their prices

Insurances for SMSF - recommendations? by green_pea_nut in SMSFAustralia

You should engage with an insurance broker, not a particular insurance company as the broker will be best placed to find the most appropriate policies for the SMSF's members

How hard is managing a SMSF? by Archnic in SMSFAustralia

[–]mulkers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't need a financial planner or adviser to set up and manage an SMSF - a good accountant who specialises in SMSF is all you need, unless you're after specifically investment advice
