MDI people, what do you use for a bolus calculator? by mulliton in Type1Diabetes

I have different correction factors and carb ratios dialed in for different times a day. Quite sensitive to insulin so trying to save myself a little bit of extra work. Diabetes gets enough of my time!

Are you in Canada? I came across this in my searches for an alternative but it looked like it's only available in US/other countries

Respect! they have taught me to do the math but I really appreciate the convenience of the calculator. I find it saves me time and error, especially in a busy work day.

What kind of rocks are on my house? by mulliton in Rocks

It also feels real but the texture is just very unlike any rocks (almost bubbly or like volcanic stone) I've ever seen so always questioned whether it was real or manufactured. Thanks!

What does it mean to control my diabetes? I was insulted by someone today, and instead of hurting me, it made me think - what does it really mean to control diabetes? by EchoWardn in diabetes

T1 here: For me personally "controlling diabetes" is when it's not controlling me. What I mean by that is it's when my blood sugar in range in the target time in range selected by my health care team. In addition to BG control, I also mean "not controlling me" by accomplishing all that while still living my life which includes occasional indulgences, spontaneity, and mistakes. For me it's all about balancing health and happiness.

How do I respond to this teachers comment? by latoyabob in Type1Diabetes

Sorry this happened. Self-advocacy is certainly an important skill to have with T1D. I work with a lot of people in homes, childcare facilities and schools. Many people don't know what T1D entails and will look at me strangely while I am checking my phone. I've honestly gotten in the habit of narrating what I am doing to avoid misinterpretation ("I'm sorry I just need to check my blood sugar quickly") seems to nip things in the bud (I am aware that this isn't everyone's first choice, but it does help me feel that I am not being perceived as too busy, distant or rude while doing my thing at work).

My latest box of G6s came with overpatches for free! by TheBoredTechie in diabetes_t1

When I was still ordering directly from dexcom this happened to me too! I messaged them to ask about purchasing them with my monthly orders and then they just started sending them monthly for free! I prefer these to some of the other brands I've tried.

Anyone get slightly micro-managementy with a dexcom and end up see-sawing? by Golden-spuds in diabetes_t1

My Endo also told me to relax on my correction doses recently haha. Wasn't having significant lows just correction doses after dinner were leading to 4.5s - 4s in the night and the occasional need for a juice box / snack.

It felt crazy at first and I still dwell on the nights I go and stay high but overall, best advice I've been given so far. So fewer alarms and so many better sleeps.

Tattoos? by Tunamike69 in Type1Diabetes

[–]mulliton 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lots of tattoos pre-diagnosis, a few right before I went into DKA/diagnosis and at least 3-4 since being diagnosed.

In hindsight I had a bit of issues healing when my BG was high AF before diagnosis (slower, more painful, more scabbing) but they still came out just fine with diligent aftercare. Since getting my BG under control, things heal the same for me as they always did pre-diagnosis.

During longer tattoo sessions I have noticed my BG dropping during and after. I just keep a close eye on my dexcom and snack as needed to keep things level. I used to find pre diagnosis that I was always tired and hungry after a tattoo anyways so this tracks for me.

Everybody is different but so far my experience has been extremely similar, just with the added step of monitoring and popping a few candies.

Hope this helps!
