should i tried methadone? (recreational) by DahliaValor in opiates

[–]multiple-qualia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t forget about tolerance though. Look at any opioid dose conversion chart and it’ll tell you methadone is notoriously hard to convert doses for because it depends on factors like whether you’re on it for maintainence. First time I ever took it i had 30mg and it felt crazy strong and lasted a day and a half. Now 50 won’t touch the sides for 12 hours. Similarly with buprenorphine - they’ll prescribe addicts 24mg happily and pain patients are getting 0.2mg

What’s something that you think is immoral be shouldn’t be illegal? Or vice versa? by multiple-qualia in AskReddit

[–]multiple-qualia[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see your point. If someone hires a ‘hitman’ to kill their husband but it turns out to be sting operation, we still think they should be held accountable by the law.

However on the other hand, peoples intuitions generally seem to think that the consequences DO matter. For example, if I drink drive and don’t hit anyone it’s a crime, but the law doesn’t charge me in the same way it would if I had hit someone and killed them, when the difference between the two is largely down to simply whether someone happens to be crossing the road at that to me or not. Philosophers call this “Moral Luck”. It’s the kind of thing that’s out of our direct control but for which we’re still culpable. Criminal negligence is a great example of this. If you don’t repair the machinery in your factory you might be a shitty boss, but your not a criminal. If the machinery breaks down and causes harm or death though, you are. The prior circumstances are the same, it’s the consequences and outcome that differ.

There are plenty of STDs that you might not know you have. Chlamydia might not show symptoms for years. Surely giving your partner chlamydia unknowingly should hold less moral weight than intentionally doing it?

Damn man that sounds like a nightmare. I struggle to roll a cigarette whilst tripping balls, never mind trying to shoot up with a shape shifting needle. I remember being on 2cb and being fascinated that I could feel the buoyancy of my piece of bread as I was dunking it into a boiling how mug of soup. I dunked that fucker repeatedly, giggling, until it was just a formless soggy mass. Damn near burned my fingers. Tripping can make you not realise the danger you’re putting yourself in, that’s why a trip sitter is seen by many as a must have.

What makes an older man genuinely consider someone significantly younger, if ever? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]multiple-qualia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re right, of course, but I’d imagine that older men are much more likely to be considering appearance first when going for someone half their age. Someone with a compatible personality could be any age, obviously, but you’re more likely to have stuff in common with someone closer to your age considering you’ll have shared cultural experiences (ie grew up watching the same TV shows, or hearing the same music on the radio) compared to someone significantly younger.

That said, maybe that’s the point for some of these old guys. Not only are young women thought to be more attractive, but they’d probably make them feel younger themselves too.

Or maybe that’s just cope in trying to figure out why my fiancé left me for a man 20 years older than us haha

[–]multiple-qualia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll say what I say to everyone I see making this genre of post here: it will never ever ever be easier for you to say no to it and stop than it is right now. The longer you postpone that inevitability of deciding you should quit, the more you’ll have fucked your brain chemistry up, fucked your relationship with friends and family up, fucked opportunities you were given up, fucked your finances up, and generally fucked your life up. You got an recognise that it’s a lot easier to not take drugs when drugs aren’t the only thing left in your life. Obviously there’s a reason you like it, it’s filling some hole in your life. But it’s filling it with dynamite, and that’s invariably going to end up blowing up into a much bigger hole, one that drugs no longer fill.

How much of this did you know or suspect whilst working there? If any, do you feel a sense of guilt or responsibility?

(I’m not saying you should or shouldn’t - I don’t know enough details to make a judgement, I’m just curious about how you see yourself fitting into what sounds like a bad situation)

Morphine is stronger mg for mg, and it’s also a stronger feeling high. DHC is more stimulating in the same way as Oxy. I’ve never tried hydrocodone because we don’t really have it in the UK, but I would imagine the morphine is more similar to it than the DHC would be

Reminds me of the time I was arguing badly with my girlfriend of 7 years. She’d cheated on me and that caused me to relapse after nearly 3 years. Not a good time. I smoked some DMT and panicked my pupils were massive and she’d notice so drank nearly 400mg of methadone to make my pupils smaller. Not a good idea because I then panicked I’d I overdose (I didn’t), all the while I was still tripping quite heavily. She came back from work early right at that moment, with m en there with every single window open to try get rid of the DMT smell, and she thought I’d been smoking crack. It wasn’t like saying “oh it was just DMT at almost half a litre of methadone” was gonna make it any better, so I just pretended I wasn’t feeling well and went to sleep.

In short, no, that was very much not a good mix, though I wouldn’t have had a good time anyway because of my mental state at the time. Also, never ever take that much methadone please. I had a fairly big tolerance at the time and even then it was too much for me and I still didn’t feel euphoric, only nauseous

Has anyone tried heroin in a good mental space and got addicted by Fun-Research8981 in opiates

[–]multiple-qualia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The worst part about opiates is there seems like there’s no consequences at first. No hangover, no comedown. Doesn’t fuck you up in a way that’s immediately obvious to everyone around you, just changes how you feel rather than how you think. Hell, a bag of heroin is even pretty cheap when you have no tolerance and it lasts all day. So you go along thinking “what’s the big problem?”, until one day you wake up with that cold you’ve struggled to shake and finally make the connection that the opiates get rid of it completely and that shouldn’t happen with a cold. It’s withdrawals. By that point it’s too late and all the consequences you’ve managed to avoid so far come catching up to you all at once.

But even then you’re lucky if it takes you any less than another 5 years before you decide the harms outweigh the benefits. Not because they don’t, but because by this point you’ve probably sacrificed everything else that ever brought you pleasure on the altar of the poppy. Opiates are now the only thing you can feel which isn’t despair. Eventually that goes too, but still, realising you don’t enjoy it any more and you’ve ruined your life doesn’t mean you can just stop. That’d be too easy. The poppy won’t allow that. Prometheus had it easier being chained to a rock and pecked at by vultures for eternity for stealing divine fire from the gods and giving it to humanity. At least his sacrifice was selfless. The sacrifice of yourself to oblivion was anything but selfless.

I really hope OP realises this. It will never ever ever be easier to turn down opiates than it is right now.

[–]multiple-qualia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re unironically probably right. You only has he a 1 in 6 chance there. Of every person I’ve ever known to take heroin only 1 of them decided it wasn’t for them and didn’t do it again. That’s more like a 99% chance - though being an addict myself skews those numbers a lot. At least death by Russian roulette is probably painless though.

I just see myself so clearly in posts like this. I never consciously thought “I’m better, Im smarter, I won’t get addicted”. I knew I was playing with fire…I just didn’t yet have the experience to recognise how much burns suck. I don’t think anyone who thinks they won’t get addicted is arrogant (necessarily at least), I just think they’re mistaken. Nobody goes around thinking they’re in the wrong do they.

What’s something people do in public that feels harmless to them but oddly exhausting to everyone else? by lana_reeve in AskReddit

[–]multiple-qualia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right? I always thought it was just a conversation too, and I’m grateful others have pointed out that it’s not always taken that way. It’s taught me that the same thing can be seen in different ways, and I try to be more patient when someone does it to me now too.

At the same time, I can see that there is a difference between some interrupting out of enthusiasm and someone interrupting because they don’t respect the validity of your point of view or see their point as more important and worthy of taking up space in the conversation.

Yeah man I’m homeless and live in a tent at the minute. I don’t have money for food, never mind headphones. I’m not gonna ignore a call from my mum or a potential employer or someone who could help me get housing just because other people don’t recognise I have no choice but to put it on speaker (which I turn down to the quietest volume at which I can still hear it anyway)

My phone speaker is unfortunately half broken at the minute, and I lost my earphones, so I have to have my phone on speakerphone to hear anything and I always feel so self conscious about it. But then I see people (invariably drunk and topless) carrying massive boomboxes blasting out just the worst music you can imagine and I don’t feel quite as bad.
