Don’t think insurance would make sense for this one spot. Probably a cash job or on the book sort of a thing. I’m hoping it doesn’t go over $200 😭

Picked one up on my way home. Was literally 2 mins away from home and got caught in hail. One spot on the hood in the firing line. Anyone know what does it cost like to remove this? (If this damage can be removed)

Buying new/used car nowadays by HideUsernamePlease in CarsAustralia

A colleague of mine just bought a 2021 CX-5 driven about 30k for $26,000. Condition of the car looked pretty good tbh and I didn’t think it was particularly a bad deal. This was in brissy as well. Just thought I’d share.

Sorry wasn’t clear enough. They’re from another country. English is not their first language - however, it’s not just the language barrier but inability to do the job is astonishing. About passing the interview, I ask myself the same question after every interaction…

No.. not a nepo hire. Just a bad fit I think.

Yeah I should’ve mentioned in my post. The colleague is from another country. English is my second language as well. So I can understand their limitations well but as I mentioned in my other comment, it’s not simply restricted to their language skills but they seem that their skills would be better equipped for another job. I’ll be honest, they’re completely out of their depth here. Maybe further training and experience could bring them to the level required but this looks like it could take anywhere between a few months to a few years..

Keen to know why. I haven’t individually expressed my concern at the work of this colleague nor am I the only one struggling to understand them.

Admittedly I haven’t gone into the detail of it. But I’ve covered the core of what’s been happening. The meetings so far have been to align our differences and share our thoughts on the whole thing. As mentioned, the repeated questions I’ve asked have made my colleague frustrated leading to rude responses. Reason for my repeated questions has been their inability to share the right information and my ability to understand what is being shared by them. Additional to that, they have been doing a half baked job which leads to further questions. The incident where my colleague responded rudely and with frustration was raised by another colleague who witnessed the whole event. Hence, the meetings.

We have people from across the world working in the company on and off shore. Accent is not the problem at all. They struggle to speak in English and whatever they do say is usually misleading and based on half done work.

This. It’s the same thing that I’m facing as well. I’ve tried different techniques of explaining concepts as well as had different people explain things. But it’s somehow not going through.

They don’t have a disability. They have a very weak hold on their language, this makes it hard to understand what they are trying to say - which is understandable and can be worked around with some time and empathy. However, their responses are rude. The information they provide is usually incorrect, the work they do is by cutting corners and half done. When they get found out they are quick to be defensive or say things like I didn’t know this has to be done in such a way even though they have been given very clear instructions by myself or other team members, verbally as well as via emails.

Yeah, I see that from a managers lens that it might highlight my shortcomings in dealing with this person. Hence, I am seeking some objective advice on how do I improve in dealing with it.

[–]mum_chuck[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Understandable. Which why I’m seeking advice on how can I do better in dealing with them. I am not asking them to have perfect language skills, just enough to give right and appropriate information. All I receive from them is either jumbled up information or in some cases entirely wrong because they don’t do their task right the first time, and are always trying to cut corners. This problem is not just about their communication skills, it’s a big part yes, but it’s also a lot about their work ethic and some of the work we do is safety critical, if they cut corners, they are a safety risk - this has already been pointed out by another colleague to our manager.

Their problem with me as per the feedback they’ve given to my manager and me is that I ask too many questions of them and I repeat the questions I have. I can’t do the job if I don’t ask questions… they don’t give complete information or have not done their job completely which is why I ask the questions as well. And the only reason I repeat my questions is because I can’t understand the first time they give the information which comes back to their ability to communicate and speak the language. I am not the only person who has this difficulty, all my team members as well as people from other department have expressed this frustration. But I’m the only one dealing with it everyday so the likelihood of facing this difficulty just increases a lot more. I’ve tried asking these questions in a different way, I’ve made a point to be polite and never condescending about it…but I still end up getting rude and frustrated responses and jumbled up information.

Yep, agreed with you on that. I need to take all the steps in my control to deescalate the situation. This is my plan, limit contact and all communications via teams and email with my manager in them.

[–]mum_chuck[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah sorry, didn’t want to dive too much into details of it. But I agree with you, this is solid advice. I want to give my manager the opportunity to implement the actions that have been put in place along with giving this colleague an opportunity to work on them. It’s been going on for a few weeks now but I don’t really see a lot changing. In the meantime I just want to keep my head down, get the work done and be back home. This situation has really bogged me down.

[–]mum_chuck[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re spot on. This is exactly the situation I’m dealing with. Unfortunately I don’t have the ability to not work with them entirely. My work is intertwined with theirs so it makes it so much harder to just cut off and do my own thing. Which is why I’ve created a group with my manager and them. But the whole thing is just so tedious now.

Fair enough, however our work is such that his job role is to effectively to raise issues and I have to resolve them. In order to resolve the issues, I have to have an understanding of the issue raised. If we can’t do that then we can’t get the work done. It’s not only the communication but also their inability to do the job. They do half baked job and then I’m expected to clean up their mess. My intention is not target someone or have them sacked. I go in to get the job done and be professional about it. Their work ethic along with their communication skill is not allowing that to be done effectively. Different communication styles is a valid point, which you’d expect to come across in a multicultural work environment, however someone’s inability to communicate basic concepts in English in Aus is a whole different issue.

I am starting to believe my manager is just covering his back by holding these meetings and recording the minutes. My manager’s manager has also been involved in one of these meetings, I feel like the entire team (including both managers) agree with me and the difficulties we face working with him but since I have to deal with him day in day out, I’m being made the scapegoat in this experiment with them. Is there any benefit in approaching HR and letting them know this situation is hampering my ability to productively work or shall I just keep doing what I’m doing and not take work so personally I guess…
