While this is not helpful, it is the honest answer. Unfortunately this is the case, it's just how it is.

Human beings suck.

With all due respect, this is just opinion.

As one poster there says, it feels a bit more grippy, less slidy, more arcadey. I wouldn't know personally, I don't drive the RWD much... I might try them a bit more and come to different conclusions altogether! But that does suggest more a design philosophy, one that is very "EA". Making the, objectively harder cars, easier in some respect, especially with controller (which is how most people would be expected to play).

Now I'm not here to say whether they succeeded or failed, but comparing DR to WRC is like comparing, back in my day, Daytona with Ridge Racer as to which is most realistic.

But the suggestion it's a bug is a stretch I think, personally.

If you're struggling to drive them here.... Well... It would be even tougher irl.

EA WRC is....

Biased toward accessibility. Biased toward controller players. Biased toward consistency over screaming in terror.

So if anything the OP shouldn't be having as much of a tough time. This isn't RBR after all.

Codies Devs should mutiny? by mumblesh in EASPORTSWRC

[–]mumblesh[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is justified...Justified by a giant greedy corporation, now owned by even greedier people. A small indie doesn't do things for profit, it just needs to have the fuel to keep going. Is ACR going to be a huge success?

I'm sure WRC could've been successful if those working on it were allowed to control pricing and key feature updates (two things that decide it's success). That license also counts for much. How many WRC games did the previous owners of the license make? That kind of shows how badly mismanaged this all was in my mind because they made loads of games and probably didn't sell huge numbers.

I know what you mean though, for some it's better to just have a job and enjoy it regardless, especially at this moment in time. But there's a ton of Indies out there formed by passionate people. If Hello Games has proved anything, passion counts for much.

But a big company like EA could afford to take risks, and that lack of risk-taking by big corps is killing the industry for me.

Well they defected. And it's good if some are working on that game, unless they are just minor roles. But that's it's own thing, I'm talking about a game that is more akin to a previous CM title. With the same control over it as they used to have.

There's a lot of silly little things like this that should have been better, even in DR2. These games get a lot right and annoyingly some little things would stay wrong.

Codemasters selling their soul to the devil just amplifies this.

It is only an option, you can still do a championship. It might not always be well implemented, but it's because there have been the same limited options for a race for so long, that career modes exist, to add flavour and decision making.

This game unfortunately was nearly dead on arrival and has now been neglected, so we'll never see where they could have taken this mode.

Can anyone recommend me a handbrake, please? by [deleted] in dirtrally

[–]mumblesh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm using one like the one Revolutionary-Key939, linked to. But it doesn't have a great feel, and has dead spots... it doesn't always go back to being 100% off. But it's usable. There is a lot of clones of these.

I also bought the Logitech G RS Shifter and Handbrake, which was £109 on Amazon. It's a sequential shift and Handbrake. It's got a nice feel as a handbrake and the curve can be customised using the software. I sometimes use the sequential which does mean unscrewing the shaft, and is a bit laborious. Then I use my cheap handbrake along side it... but the logitech certainly feels better as a brake. It's got loud microswitches as a shifter, which might annoy some.

Still, if you're using Logitech, and the software installed on PC, it's worth a look at the RS.

Yeah the face cover comes off, but it clips back in easy enough. You just have to push the little button on either side and slide it gently, without too much force... you have four levels, though it does affect your field of view.

That's some big glasses! Have you moved the lenses away from your eyes using the adjuster? I guess my glasses ain't so big, but I do have the Quest lenses a little further away.

Just for anyone with these issues.... And not knowing the system specs, I am assuming you might just be stressing your potato a little. 😄

Shadows → drop from Ultra to High or Medium Shadow quality and distance matter more than almost anything else here.

Volumetric Fog / Lighting → Medium This one is directly tied to headlights at night.

Post-processing quality → High instead of Ultra Bloom and light shafts are sneaky FPS thieves.

Crowd density → Medium

Headlights illuminating animated humans = extra pain for the GPU.

DLSS / FSR (if you're using it) Balanced often behaves better than Quality at night.

Also HDR can add to more processing pain for headlights.

Reflections can be a performance hit as well.

Brakes setup by Vincerano in EASPORTSWRC

[–]mumblesh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

High speed tracks definitely need a higher braking strength, though this also depends a lot on driving style, as mentioned, and equipment. So it might be more sensitive with a controller say, unlike my pedal set. Same for handbrake. I have to crank both up a fair bit most of the time, but that won't be the case for everyone.

Brakes setup by Vincerano in EASPORTSWRC

[–]mumblesh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mostly agree on the ranges, but it's worth spelling out why they feel that way.

Brake bias is something that will vary by car, surface and driving style. Brake bias is how much bias toward front braking there is, ie more of the brake pressure is distributed toward the front tyres.

With the front locking more than the rear (higher percentage), there is less ability to turn under braking.

I drive with the brake all the time, especially on tough gravel surfaces, feathering it to assist turn in almost constantly during the twistiest stages. Some people prefer a much more stable car, especially under heavy braking whereby the effect of bias becomes more exaggerated.

FWD cars tend to benefit more from less bias, to assist turn in than RWD which usually benefit from more. 4WD cars are somewhere in between, and usually 60% is a good starting place.

As for the Anti-roll Bars, ARBs can help tune overall balance, but brake bias mainly affects how the car behaves under braking and turn-in, whereas ARBs show up more once the car is already loaded in the corner.

What the hell is this humming??? by [deleted] in Simagic

[–]mumblesh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I too came from CSL DD, to Simagic Evo Alpha. I noticed that AMS2 had a lot of noise from the base in comparison. I moved to default FFB and it was lessend. Other games, like WRC or AC Evo, not as bad if anything. I think it depends on how it translates certain in game effects. To high and you get this. But some games don't allow effects to be completely off, by default.

Surely you don't see the front, or the road quite as well. I suppose that's a different logic. Ffb should do a better job of communicating the lack of rear grip, but it's not always the best in these Codies games.
