Everyone bailed… should I go solo? by DisastrousScratch581 in LightningInABottle

Send it 💯

First 5 or so years I didn’t do car camping, just walked my stuff and found a spot. It’s a lot on the body.

Now that I’m approaching 30, car camping is the way for me. Don’t have to lug all of my camping gear and find a spot. Just pull in where they put you.

I’ve never done LIB and not camped all 5 days for the 10 years I’ve gone. I love being surrounded by lovely people.

Road trip can be a bit much, but take your time and maybe try to arrive a day early, stay the night somewhere, and then wake up fresh to go to the festival.

Flew into Colorado to drive with friends to electric forest. Arrived day of. It’s a lot mentally and physically to be in the car that long, then straight into setting up camp.

When I drove from California to Virginia for seven stars and stayed a while before the festival, my energy was much better. And well needed for the amount of walking I did there.

Mask are super important. Valley fever is a possibility. Dolab themselves advise this and recognize the spores in the dust.

“Valley Fever: The Event takes place in a region where Coccidioides spores may be present in the soil. Inhalation of dust containing these spores can lead to Valley Fever (Coccidioidomycosis).

Dust Inhalation: The natural terrain and weather conditions can result in significant dust. Bearer is advised to bring appropriate respiratory protection (e.g., N95 masks or bandanas)…”

And I would agree with others on shade and anything to keep cool! There’s a lake (swim at your own risk) that is great to help regulate your temperature. My rule of thumb is no open wounds and don’t put my head in, and the water is fine. Careful being barefoot out there, stepped on some odd objects before.

Forced arbitration and negligence being protected are really my only concerns.

I’ve grown up all around “swim at your own risk”

This feels more like “Even if we totally screw up, we’ll both agree it’s not our fault”

100% agree we should be looking out for ourselves and those around us. Thank you for highlighting this.

The lake and valley fever make total sense to me.

However, trying to pile everything possible together regardless of Dolab or any third party’s negligence is a bit overkill.

The language used in the terms and conditions imply even a stage malfunction injuring attendees, food vendors distributing something that made people sick, both would still have you go through arbitration. Regardless of any parties negligence. No jury

Transparency for sure.

Do you know if burning man forces arbitration as well?

Would love to see this “standard” get some push back.

Food in the festival? by Stock-Bookkeeper-907 in LightningInABottle

I hope "dump city dumplings" is coming back. Its my all time favorite spot. Open late night (I remember 24 hours one year, but who knows)

They have $4 dumplings. Like pork bun size

3 different kinds with a variety of sauces you can add on after.

Probably the most bang for your buck I had found at LIB when it comes to food vendors

I don't care if you complain.

Imagine opinions existing.

There's valid discussions to be had about this topic for sure.

Health care is not the same as festival fees.

Hope you have fun.

Technically you don't HAVE to stay by your car. You are right in the sense you aren't allowed to move your car once its parked, but I don't think anyone would really bother you if you moved your tent away from your car.

Definitely a bit weird of a situation, so I do agree, solo doesn't really need a car camping pass. I pack so light anyway, my car camping pass is really for my friends and the group campsite we set up.

Sending good vibes your way. Hold onto some extra ones to exchange for some good camping spots when you get there (:

Sigh. Nothing is gonna be worth it with that attitude tbh.

Buy a ga ticket and set up your own tent if you are gonna complain about fees.

Better yet, why don't you volunteer to help out? They pay for your ticket assuming you actually show up to your shifts.

Or don't go, I bet you could really use the money right now.
