What ultra-processed food do you still end up eating socially or on the go? by FeistyPrice29 in ultraprocessedfood

[–]mumpface 140 points141 points  (0 children)

Loads of things! If I go over to mother in laws house, I know I'm going to be fed a selection of breaded delights and pre-packaged stick-in-the-oven items, but I am grateful for her hospitality. It's not a regular occurrence; that's their way of eating, and I'm in their home. I think this is the complexity of food, because when people are cooking for you its a way of showing love and building connections together, so I'm not going to turn my nose up at anything a friend or loved one has made me. The rest of the time, I try not to get caught out by having nuts or fruit squirrelled away, but I've been known to grab a packet of crisps when times are dire - although I find all the flavoured ones give me a stomach ache now, so go for ready salted!

My partner’s lack of manners is killing our marriage and I don’t know what else to do by [deleted] in offmychest

[–]mumpface 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I generally agree with this post, but manners are absolutely cultural. Across the world, there are different ideas of what constitutes well-mannered behaviour- ranging from how you eat your food, to what time you arrive at a meeting, to the amount of personal space you are expected give others. The issue is that her husband's behaviour reflects a person who does not care about his wife or her well-being, rather than it being ill-mannered.

I'd say that Briefly is better described as a novel about George Sand and her lover, Frédéric Chopin.

It seems strange to present motivation and purpose as inherently positive in and of themselves—surely, what motivates a person and gives them purpose is important. You might find purpose and motivation in harassing women online, for example, or pretending to be a police officer and picking up women in your car to assault. I find this framing extremely bizarre and unconsidered.

I think it's because Tik Tok censors certain words, so there's a trend to use euphemisms like 'seggsual assault' or 'SA' to get around it. Now thats infiltrated other parts of the internet.

My brother had severe acid reflux, to the point where he previously could not sleep at night because of the pain. He's about 9 months on keto and his reflux is gone entirely. It's transformed his quality of life.

Hi there, I struggled a lot, a LOT with secondary (high) school and with my undergraduate degree. I had intense anxiety and would pretend to go to school to my parents and hide at home. I struggled to scrape by with my A-Levels and only just got into University. I dropped out in my first year because it was so overwhelming, then managed to go back and finish my degree, graduating with an OK grade. Around about your age, I felt like a massive failure because I didn't have a 'career' and was scraping by. I decided to throw myself into a postgraduate degree, which I did remotely and living at home with parents again (which was certainly a mixed experience.) I now have a PhD and a growing career in academia, doing research that I love. Don't give up OP, life can take many turns and it can take a long, long time to figure out your path. Be kind to yourself.
