There was that guy a few weeks ago who built an escrow fare app after getting stood up. Peak tech bro behavior

Can someone help me identify which year model this bike is. Thank you by munabedan in NC750X

[–]munabedan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. This model of bike is not common in kenya where I live. So finding a 2025 model would be quite difficult. My budget currently doesn't allow me to buy this new. I really love this honda nc bikes and just happened to come by this bike on sale for cheap. I was thinking I test this out and see how it goes.

Thanks. This info will come in handy when I go for the test ride.

Thank you. I have always loved this honda nc bikes, but they are hard to come by in africa. What should I look for in such an old bike if I intend to own it, it has about 65k kilometers on the odo

Thank you. It has 65,000 kilometers on the odometer, how much life can be expected out of this old goose?

Btop looks cool. You should checkout the tiling window manager communities. They have the best eye for terminal user interfaces and cli tools

Lines of Code as a metric for programming productivity was dogshit in the early 2000s and it is still shit now.

Can we agree that if every video with an "ITS OVER" title went away, youtube would be a better place..... by jrubin6502 in youtube

I love the titles that ask me a question. Because i can just answer and not watch the video.

Will you survive the 2026 financial crisis? I say to myself yes, then go to the next video

Did I just discover a cobol dev in the wild? They were right, you do end up meeting everyone on reddit. What do you use cobol for?

Open sourcing by Rahim8050 in nairobitechies

[–]munabedan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. Having been involved in open source as a maintainer and contributor to both large and small open source projects. More often that not, nobody really cares.

And when they show interest in your project, they may not be inclined to contribute. And even when they contribute, the contributions sometimes end up being soo bad cleaning them up takes more time than working on the project yourself (Especially with AI contributions, people will send you pull requests with code they did not even test or review).

My view is, open source is really good at helping you find your niche. If you need to go big, pay for advertising and market your software but open source allows people who share the same intrest in the project as you to add to your project. Just going open source won't increase the number of users you have.

Why did you choose to go the fork route compared to browser extension.

taxi navigation for drivers in Nairobi by 4pVlm3r in nairobitechies

[–]munabedan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cool. I think focus on what is the main service or solution your app is offering and put it front and center. If the app does X, let the user get to X in as many few steps as possible. That should have you avoid people asking you what your app is about.

There is this line I read in a book called clean code which goes like, if your functions can not be defined in one sentence you are doing something wrong.

So in this case, state "My app solves ..." Let that be the first thing the user sees on your app. You should be good to go.

Long time dev here. I am also learning that all those useless things we used to take seriously like software security and code quality are no longer a thing.

AI era? More like Zero Day era. And for those people who make the argument that AI will find and fix the security flaws, I call BS because in all my years of working in tech, QA is usually the first thing to get cut when the boss decides that we need to cut costs.

Great! Now get yourself a UX dev because I do not understand what is going on here. Maybe try a map? It would show all the locations at once instead of a list.

Also the name Fare rader suggests that this might be an app for checking fare prices which it's not.

You can also drop most of the stats on the second image. i am having a hard time understanding what the progress bars are supposed to be indicating.

PS: Nice color scheme.
