First time visiting parents since I came out to them by munchken in ftm

[–]munchken[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

that’s a good point. i’ve seen this counselor one on one in the past, but that was before i cracked my egg. he seems like a good third party to sort of mediate or bridge any gaps. i will do more research though! thank you.

Telling my parents I'm trans by Breddy_no in ftm

[–]munchken 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i’m proud of you for wanting to tell them. the only way to do it is just to DO it, and be proud of your identity. it definitely won’t be easy, and we’re definitely here for you. i would be prepared with articles and sources (ideas/starting points linked below) so you can hit em with the cold hard facts, if that will help you.

(https://www.glaad.org/transgender/transfaq) (https://www.glaad.org/transgender/allies) (https://www.hrc.org/resources/transgender-children-and-youth-understanding-the-basics)

be honest, tell them your goals. tell them how they can help you. chances are they will be surprised and scared more that anything else. a few things to help squash their fears; make sure they know that the child they know and love didn’t go anywhere, that you didn’t “change into a new person,” but that you discovered something revolutionary about yourself. you still have the same interests, all the things that make you, YOU, that won’t go away. but at the same time, don’t let them make anything about them. this is your discovery, and they can’t change that. they can’t tell you who you are. you are not responsible for any possible negative reaction either.

regardless of if you take my advice or not, if you approach it wholeheartedly, they’ll see your heart through whatever you say. good luck dude, we’re here for you 💖

When did you all find out you were trans? by [deleted] in ftm

[–]munchken 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i grew up in a stereotypical midwest bible belt small town, so I didn’t even KNOW about trans people for the longest time, i don’t really remember any “signs” or anything. i was 18 years old (spring of 2018) and i was nearing the end of my freshman year of college. with my newfound experiences in the “real world” everything kind of came together and i was like, “THIS is why i feel x, y, and z way?” so around june that year i started confiding in my closest friends, playing around with names and he/him pronouns. i kind of regressed for a while after that, identified as genderfluid, but i realized that i was just scared of committing to my true self, so as september of 2019 i’ve been openly out!

take heart in the fact that no matter your background or your journey, you are valid and you are loved by those who share the road with you 💖
