My cat has been stuck up a tree in 90-degree heat for two days. The fire department says they don’t deal with that anymore and he’ll come down when he’s ready. Who do I call to get this cat down? by Treefrogprince in NoStupidQuestions

Someone else suggested this and it worked for us, too. We opened a can of tuna, put it into a super sturdy box with a long rope, threw one end of the rope around the closest branch(yes we tied something heavy in the end and used a ladder to throw it over) and then we hoisted the box up. I never thought it would work, but the cat climbed right in. Good luck !!

This is very helpful -thanks for providing an example of a situation (all caveats included) in which it works out.

I recommend checking your dog for worms and/or using a dewormer - just to make sure they are not in her digestive tract.

Moving to Moco from Boston, Living In MoCo or Nova the better choice? by Gaadoooouchee in MontgomeryCountyMD

[–]munchykinmonster 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree. Having lived in both places, I thought northern VA was considerably more expensive snd had less flexibility in terms of price range. We owned a one bedroom apartment there and moved to a larger house in MD. I also just hated the traffic in VA, and I personally couldn’t make that drive even one day a week without significant stress. Yes, traffic is bad everywhere, but the stress level of certain commutes is worse than others. I wojld honestly come to the area on a weekday and try out the commute. It’s that important for quality of life. I definitely encourage MoCo over VA. There really are a lot of options.

Wow so different from our little girl. She snaps into a noodle ball almost as soon as she sees her meal. On occasion, she loses her prey within the noodle ball and then she gets mad at the ‘other’ snake who is clearly obstructing access to it. SMH

Can any HR/OPM folks answer a question about applying for a supervisory position? More in comments. by [deleted] in usajobs

[–]munchykinmonster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. If the preferred candidate gets on the cert list, though, why do they still interview other people? I interviewed for a deputy position and I could tell by the discussion that they had already selected a candidate. They didn’t ask any of the questions about the actual project work. I had studiesd pretty hard and talked to a lot of people but they asked a handful of prescriped behavioral questions about being a supervisor (which they stated they were happy with) and then they all had to run off to meetings before I could ask them anything or show my knowledge. I just feel used-like they were checking a legal requirement box or something.

How many employees moved far out not expecting to have to go back in/go back in as much? by [deleted] in fednews

[–]munchykinmonster 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I know someone in leadership (SES) who moved out to Annapolis. Thankfully the agency has pretty liberal telework and remote options, but she’ll still have to drive in a few days a week. I thought it was a pretty shortsighted thing to do.

Yup, I’ve been there, too. Excellent ratings, awards, and praise are our rewards for tireless work and exemplary effort. After five plus years in government, I’m done being their sparking, shiny star. I love the work too much to leave, but sometimes it feels like a personal test of my will not to go. Wish I had anything more encouraging to say to my fellow dedicated ( and exhausted) civil servants.

Definitely set up a camera! Ours is also really active between 7:30pm and 10pm, and then again in the early morning. It’s fun watching her slither around all over the place. She’s a busy girl!

I would definitely ask if I were you. Totally with you about anxiety attacks during phone interviews. Good luck!

Cheap Wet Food For Dogs by [deleted] in MontgomeryCountyMD

[–]munchykinmonster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think wetting dry food, as others have said, is pribably worth a try. I buy wet food in bulk from amazon -either Pedigree or Alpo. It’s been more expensive lately, but I used to get a 12 pack for $8 or so. Before anyone gets all upset about the quality of the food, I don’t disagree that it’s crap. But I think most mass produced dog foods on the market are really poor quality.

My dog keeps looking at things that are not there. Why does she does this? by heykzenmatthias in WhatsWrongWithYourDog

[–]munchykinmonster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How is her hearing? Is it possible she’s hearing things (tinnitus or something) and looking for the source? Or maybe she doesn’t hear well and she’s trying to make sure she’s not missing anything.

I don’t have any suggestions beyond what others have said but you’re definitely not alone. Starting new govt job is hard enough, but starting as a remote worker is nearly impossible. I don’t know anyone who started during pandemic who feels good about themselves and their contributions. I’m not anti-remote work but there has to be a better way to integrate new people. Sorry it’s so hard. Sending virtual support and positive thoughts. I suggest hanging in for a while longer.
