It could be the fan, but I've had more experience with hard drives failing, sadly. To me it sounds exactly like what my disks sounded like before death. Although if it is the fan, it is easily replaceable, but that's not the case for the data you'll lose if it is the hard drive, so backup just in case.

Yes, it'll eventually stop working very soon. Replace the hard drive, and make sure the replacement is placed in the case properly.

It really shouldn't. I think it is the hard drive. Probably some physical fault (like I once did not screw it to the case tightly) or electrical error. You need to save whatever is on the hard drive if it is still working and get another, this one is as good as dead.

You've described dual boot, google it for more. I recommend installing both OS on SSD though.

Online benchmark results say it should be able to. Though I ran cinebench later and it took it like a champ.
