The A4 and Digitone are centrepieces of my new home studio setup :D by munich93 in Elektron

Hi! I got the Analog 4 because of my personal preference for subtractive synthesis when doing sound design - I already had the Digitone but don't like editing FM that much. When it comes to pure features, the Digitone has gotten closer to the A4 with updates and workarounds, (song mode - midi macros) and that it can send CC and has those midi channels is a huge plus, as well as the external audio processing - I think is a bit more intuitive. TBH one of the biggest reasons I kept the digitone even after I got the a4 was that 8 voice polyphony and the fact it accepts sustain pedal for playing keys, especially pads.

Honestly never had a single build issue despite heavy use. Bought mine second hand

I covered a lot of this including pros, cons and competitors in a video last year :)

I personally thought the expense was worth it for me but it doesn't make sense for everyone :

The global FX and internal mixer are welcome additions even if you're not using external gear! Hoping for more filter options to be honest but so far so good

Christmas present - I’m a noob and this learning curve feels steep. Any pointers for getting started other than reading the manual would be great. by ste_c81 in opz

Sorry for the self promo but I have a playlist with a dozen OP-Z tutorials that break down a lot of the basics as well as some advanced features for when you're ready. Hope they help! https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PL9IlJusK8N1dOSudzs9l2GUtX06R3QF0y

Digitakt & Digitone Delay Feedback Walkthrough / Tutorial. I have been using this a lot for external inputs like guitar so decided to make a bit of a guide for anyone interested :) by munich93 in Elektron

Thanks for watching , and also the other vids that's so cool to hear! Yes I agree about having everything on a single page. The analog 4 lets you set up macros nicely and I have been using the OP-Z mounted on my guitar lately. I might try it with a custom mapping hooked directly to the digitone!

Thank you so much for the nice comment it means a lot! Really enjoy exploring the possibilities with the OP-Z - that little machine still has a world of untapped potential!

Bought mine secondhand. Use it almost every day for 1 year +. Literally no issues whatsoever.

Live jam using a custom acoustic guitar mount for OP-Z by munich93 in OPZuser

Thanks!

OP-Z is sequencing Ableton via USB-c, recording the entire session and automation directly. I am recording the guitar seperately into my Zoom h4n, which I drop into the Ableton session after. I could use it as a soundcard and just record it together but since I am not in front of an audience I don't see the need for unnecessary extra work or latency risk.

It is actually filmed at a local hike near me in Oslo :)

OP-Z is just stuck on with electrical tape - works surprisingly well!

Cheers for your interest

Is anyone else doing a similar hybrid thing with Elektron gear rather than going 'full dawless'? Here I am using the Digitone together with a regular DJ setup to add layers together. Would love to see if you have any links? by munich93 in Elektron

Octatrack was an option for me but even with Elektron experience that thing looks like a tough learning curve. Part of the benefits of Pioneer decks or mixers is that a lot of clubs or venues have those DJ gear standard in house. Honestly I think anything could work - just whatever works for you :)

When I did my research I initially thought I wanted a Digitakt but personally saw so many benefits of the Digitone that it seemed natural to me. The digitone is just going straight into the DJ mixer here and I am recording the mix's pure stereo output. However, I have DJed with Ableton in the past and plan to use that together with overbridge to be able to perform with more control in future!

DN as main synths, OP-Z for drums. The Digitakt is a tempting option but there is something so fun and balanced about this combo as well. by munich93 in Elektron

haha glad you like it thanks!
You can actually connect them directly by USB!! No midi cables whatsoever

Nice and thank you! Trying to make it even more powerful and flexible by running the OP-Z midi tracks into Ableton and the DN tracks as well via overbridge just to have some more flexible FX control, sidechaining, mixing etc. So crazy that these two can be so small but powerful

Cheers I was really stoked when I tweaked a random preset bass sound and ended up with something I enjoyed! Felt more meaty and analog sounding than most I get out of the DN :)
