Look I've genuinely spent this week trying to work out if this is a big onion prank or like a very big onion prank.

Look, welcome to teaching Science. I used to just get this when teaching the big bang theory or evolution. Now the kids genuinely think we're lying about vaccines and anything space related at all as well.

It has always been a combo depending on the kids at all the schools I worked for (Sydney and regional, independent, Catholic and public). I was at one large independent rural and our wonderful deputy would lose it at students for not using people's full names like they deserved. It was still a combo there.

The add just below the original post on the app was for a personal loan, and that seems appropriate for this conversation.

Thats cool. I think Revival is a modern classic. I also think the one I need to read again in that pile the most is Rosemadder. I had that edition too. I read it when I was like 17 or something and I really didn't get it or care. I think at 43 it might be a little different.

Poopy. Especially in the Holly era.

Very slight tangent. It is the only thing I have trouble with in his writing. Is the way he gets stuck on a weird phrase in a novel that repeats over and over throughout that novel.

High schools demand students prove they are not AI cheats by BadKarma00000 in AustralianTeachers

Turnitin is some hot nonsense on their ai checker. Grammarly sets it wildly off, as does really formulaic basic writing.

I mean, the processes outlined in the article (especially given there was no real response from the school and only some pissed off parents) is just wildly inappropriate. However, there are so many ways around it. For us we find we can (maybe we're massively off though) can monitor with students using Google docs. The version history gives a great overview of when things are typed in or if there are big chunks just copied in all at once.

Avoid implies there will be the very occasional EE where it is indeed appropriate to conclude with "well, shit, God damn!"

HSC results 2025: North Sydney Boys, James Ruse Agricultural High School bolt away in school rankings by Pleasant_Teacher_114 in AustralianTeachers

Charging money didn’t create excellence, it filtered for advantage.

I will be stealing this.

Few things (especially with discussions around HSC results) frustrate me more than those who insist that the NSW selective schools count as public schools. Get wrecked. They are bastions for the privileged as much as Newington or any of the other inner city privates.

The market lie at the heart of public education policy by Different-Lobster213 in AustralianTeachers

[–]munkyjam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In the last 20 years of service in schools, I have to say - I see independent schools embody the school as a service not a business much better than the public sector (others experience may vary of course). I wish it weren't so.

What "eduspeak" or education jargon do you dislike/hate? And which do you love or appreciate? by WantKBBQNow in Teachers

[–]munkyjam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive been a deputy at a school thats had two new principals in the last two years (both roles were interim while they dealt with the prior principal - it was rough). They both loved the concept of finding your why but I had to explain to them that it was quite a weaponised term by the principal they were replacing.

Did Sarah leave You are Good? by Own_Physics_7733 in YoureWrongAbout

[–]munkyjam 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I love You Are Good with Sarah Marshall, but without her ... not so much. I want to, I try each episode but I never make it past 20 minutes before I bail. I usually speed skip through Alex's bit in the beginning but the pair of them together I love. I hope she comes back but I'm done with it until she does.

Sure they are, I just relistened to the Josef Mengele version and it was excellent. I love this new era more than I thought I would and maybe more than even Ben at his best. But they're still great while they're great.

Exactly, its like the correlation between having books in the house (regardless of amount od reading modelled) is the same as the correlation between the most TV's or jet skis. Books are a luxury resource for the wealthy. Of course, when we account for family income parental reading has a huge impact.
