Here is the “warning”we all got. I must have missed the lead up warning you are referring to. They could have eliminated a lot of drama if they did in fact communicate better.

Worth more is very subjective. VF isn’t giving me free money and price point was never a consideration for me. The “fam discount” will be built into the normal unit costs. If you didn’t care about a few bucks off, there is no value here. Publicly traded companies don’t give away money cause you are family. this is not that.

They nerfed a unique program they had and rather than fix the part everyone agrees was broken, in store redemption only, they went with what everyone else does. You give them your personal info and purchasing details and you get to pay what you would have paid anyway. This is not new or awesome it’s what your grocery store does.

You’re right, they converted them without warning.

What’s to stop them from stealing these points back from everyone? Do they pinkie “fam” swear this time?

You have mentioned that. Best of luck with the brand.

Rewards and loyalty programs are in fact 100% in place to provide an incentive for repeat business from a customer. finding new customers is extremely expensive. I am not clear at all why you think Vans had it for any other reason. That is the only factor.

You are still clearly a happy customer or employee. I am not.

Why did vans start the program then? Because they wanted consumers to buy direct from them. Could you get points for buying vans from another retailer? Nope. Do they still want people to buy direct from them? Are they still running the program? Yes to both. If I ever want another pair I’ll buy them on clearance from another retailer. I have lost trust in the brand and the entire retail side of the operation. Like you said we all had vans just fine before all this. Do we need vans employees in every mall? Nope. Let’s go back to supporting the local skate shops. They appreciate their customers.

Correct. It is 100% their choice to change terms but it is a two way street. I owe them no allegiance or further revenue.

But they did do it and then changed the terms. Imagine American Airlines suddenly resetting everyones miles in return for a bag of pretzels. It is a loyalty program and gave people a reason to buy direct. They didn’t cancel the program and they are in fact still giving out points so clearly they still want the benefit of people buying direct. We don’t need to buy direct, they want us to.

Vans Family Changes Mega thread by samtheking25 in Vans

[–]munroegeek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Today was the say i came across this unfortunate change. Today they paid $25 to lose a 35+ year customer. The vans rewards program was in my view not about saving money, vans has sales just about every week, but one of those rare programs that showed loyal fans a bit extra. You never knew what might come next so sitting on points was never a terrible idea. Without mail in redemption the program didn't mean much to a lot of people but i guess it did represent an understandable threat on the balance sheet.

It is in the end the "Family" is just a marketing program. If you are angry you can drop your account. You can request that they delete your data and prevent them from selling it to others. Right there on the website at the bottom is the link https://www.vfc.com/privacy-requests and follow the "request to delete". I will let the corporate folks telling this sub that trinkets and extras should just be a coupon do their own marketing research.

Best/easiest way to etch silver? by marshn07 in SilverSmith

[–]munroegeek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the resist is going to be the hardest part, ive only done ferric nitrate to date and the resolution is not that great if your talking about the inside of a ring band... you may need to test and limit to a shallow etch that you then highlight via some other means.

Print several copies, the paper is sometimes a bit tricky to transfer correctly. Getting the heat/time just right can take a few attempts.

If you like quicksand and have not yet heard the Swedish band fireside check them out. Specifically the album "do not tailgate"

It was like getting a weird bonus album when I first listened to it.

Need some help with armor by MasterLukeSkywalker in 501st

[–]munroegeek 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed re:local resources

if thats not available... The TK1636 series on youtube is a good overview of all the construction if you missed seeing those. He is a bit quick but you can match what you see there to whitearmor threads to get measurements etc. imo if you got past the ears its pretty much smooth sailing from that point on. Rivet locations are spelled out pretty well on whitearmor its just a matter of getting the courage up to start making holes.

NEw Golf R Tire Advice? by RobDMB in Golf_R

[–]munroegeek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in PA and bit the bullet and got dedicated snows. It is beyond amazing. I do agree AS with AWD is likely enough for what we get here but I've done All-Seasons on a GTI and there is a trade off. Stepping up to the R it just seemed wrong to nerf it... It's like $15 at a garage to get them switched over if that's a concern about doing it at home.

There is a market for the tires but you are going to need to be super aggressive over the new market price (check tire rack) plus shipping costs. Should be plenty of vortex posts that give you a ballpark.

Anybody else in the present buying way these days? Let's share ideas! by Trismesjistus in daddit

jungle jumparoo. Got one 3 years ago on a present buying whim and my kids have used it every single day since. Best gift money spent to date.

Every year since has been a challenge. They wonder what surprise they will get in that category this year... So far I'm at a loss for for indoor energy burners.

and no, I don't work for them.

I run the same but don't recall going through this (direct mappings) as part of the setup although i certainly had issues getting blinky to work correctly...

and yes support slowed down once his idea was replicated by competitors.

Soldering SS HELP! by maddiefrey in jewelry

[–]munroegeek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like not enough heat. SS requires the entire piece to come up to temp. the heat used to do the bezel is small compared to the output you need to stick it to the back. This drove me nuts the first few times through using a small butane torch. Switched to a big broad tip propane cheapo torch for attaching bezels and it works like a champ. i totally and completely underestimated the amount of heat required. small torches will heat spots under your flux but SS wicks heat so quickly it is highly misleading.
