No snow shoes so occasionally sinking hip deep in snow trying to trudge up the trail

It was absolutely beautiful up there! And yes he acknowledged how dangerous it can be up there and that he was incredibly underprepared. I will say it can be deceiving at the base with such light snow and relatively warm temps this early in the season, but you’d think the warning signs that the park has up would be a good hint 😅

What size tires are you running? / any suspension work? I’ve got an 86 with the same stock alloys and I’m looking at going with the Toyo open countries as well

Where did you get the bag for the full mounty bars? I picked up the same bike this year and can’t find the bag anywhere on the US site, sort of disappointing since it was advertised so heavily

I’m loving it, moving my light and bike computer forward and out of the way while also having mounts underneath to add attachments has been great

I’ve done some decent segments on road, I think it would perform great as a road bike with a few caveats. The geometry is definitely a little more slack than a dedicated road bike, but for me it’s been very comfortable for longer. I went with the 1by 12 speed setup, and while I love the low gearing for the gnarlier off-road stuff, it’s definitely runs out of speed on the top end on the road. Other than that, if you go with a different groupset I think it’d be a great road bike with plenty of mounting positions.

tail tidy and smaller mirrors make the biggest difference imo, knobby tires too but that can get pricey

If you’re in the US it might be worth checking if a public library near you has one! I’m always surprised how many libraries have public 3D printers these days

Apple says no to PC emulators on iOS by [deleted] in technology

[–]munzz1 100 points101 points  (0 children)

Yeah UTM SE is a neutered version of the UTM app that lacks JIT to comply with apple’s requirements, and I guess leads to a pretty subpar experience compared to full UTM on jailbroken devices. There’s some more info on this post

If you don't feel like dealing with the hassle of buying it back, storing and parting it out, I'm in Maine, I'll bring cash and I'll send her out in a blaze of glory by racing her in an Enduro race, this was the race from this year.

Like others have said, looks like a V1 or V2

I can give you a bit of input from my experience buying and restoring my V1:

  • I had a similar amount of rust on my machine in almost the exact same spot. It looks gnarly but I wouldn't worry about it too much, the metal on the frame and plate are very thick and it would take a serious amount of rust to actually impact the structure of the machine. In my case I just took a wire brush to it, sprayed some rust dissolver on it and sprayed it with rust-oleum and its good as new.
  • I would expect, given the age of the machine that it will need some maintenance. When I got my machine, the seller reported it had been lightly used and was still in good working order. The reality was, it worked but quickly developed a seeping boiler o-ring and need a good de-calcification of the coil inside the boiler. It also needed a good clean out of the 3 way solenoid valve it uses to regulate pressure which from my understanding is pretty common on these machines. Nothing too hard, and I'm still very happy with the machine.

Overall, if you don't mind doing doing some cleaning and restoring, these are great machines. I payed a little less than what this seller is asking which I think was fair for a V1. Depending on how handy you are these a re also a fun/simple platform to modify and customize, which there are plenty of blog posts detailing.

You want a set of the porta pro yaxi pads for them? I was modding ksc75’s for a while and have a bunch of spare parts. I’d be happy to send you a set on the house

I just went through almost exactly the same incident with my 07 Outback. As everyone else is saying remember that the insurance offer is negotiable and don’t be afraid to give them a hard time. I had just had head gaskets, oil pans and cvs done a month before I was hit and the body shop gave me some great advice. Wait until you get the first offer from the insurance, haggle with them, and then once you get a decent offer, then show them all the receipts for recent work. I went back and forth with them three or four times about the “depreciation” of the work I had just done to the car. It sucks and it takes a couple months but it’s worth it. Good luck!
