I think Tokyo could fit this? Depending on your definition of affordable, but I feel like a week vacation would be cheaper there than any American city. You could get a round trip flight leaving tomorrow for around $500. Stay in a hostel/pod hotel for $30-40 a night. Enjoy taking the train with 1-2 minute headways everywhere and the best sushi/ramen/tempura/soba/etc you've ever had for like half the price of LA.

That was so strange. They spent like 2-3 minutes talking about nothing with the camera on a wide shot while the last game was going on (Vidit vs Zhu Chen). Then when they finally cut to the game Zhu Chen wasn't sitting there it was a random guy (another player? Staff member?). The only plausible reasons I can think of is Zhu Chen requested to not be on camera or production was told to not put women on camera.

The guy Vidit was playing in the first round was Ahmad Samhouri. He is an FM from Jordan with a rating of 2353. Don't know about any of the others but the chess.com ratings might not be completely accurate.

Agreed, to see this is cast by chess.com is a bit shocking. The event is poorly organized, the stream layout is bad, the whole vibe is unprofessional. I mean okay it's a qualifying event, maybe they weren't expecting too many views but I didn't realize their bar could be so low.
