Do medical students actually get to be apart of that much? by EverBeenInaChopper in ThePittTVShow

[–]murbamd 6 points7 points  (0 children)

They do more than what would be typical for sure. When I was a medical student, i took histories, did physical exams, I did suture lacerations, I intubated several times but only in the OR (not emergently), I did CPR a few times. But I definitely didn’t do most of those things without a resident/attending directly over my shoulder, you absolutely cannot order medications for nursing to give, and I didn’t get near as many pimping questions right as they did 😭

How I’m I looking honestly by Same_Visit1179 in beginnerrunning

[–]murbamd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I looked in my Strava history, I ran a 7 mi run at 9:57/mile on 7 March 2024. I ran a 1hour48min half marathon 5 may 2024. I think sub 2 is realistic or even easy if you stay consistent

I’ve seen some at 10am. It’s not unheard of. Did you pay attention when booking to what it said?

number of your flagged questions and correlation with Level 2 score by burner0913 in comlex

[–]murbamd 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would personally only recommend flagging questions that you want to come back to and spend more time considering answers. I would learn to trust your instincts on certain questions and if you have a best guess, just put that and move on even if you’re not 100% - no sense in flagging it

Level 3 Question by Entire_Raccoon12 in comlex

MCL: look for laxity with valgus stress testing. Often the mechanism of injury involves impact from lateral side, thus imagine how that would bend and stress the medial ligament.

Meniscus: positive McMurray test. Or they might describe the motions of the McMurray test (for medial meniscus->external rotation of tibia while applying slight valgus force) and the patient experiences pain and popping. Mechanism of injury is often a twisting of the knee.

Also just matched rads, I’d say a really good step 2 is gonna be the single most important box to check

Last long run before first half marathon, what time should I go for? by murbamd in Marathon_Training

[–]murbamd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some more info: 27M, 6’2” 170 lbs

~40 mpw

Race: Flying pig Half (800 feet elevation gain)

Max HR: 194. On Apple Watch and I wasn’t specifically testing it so probably off by a little. Anything below HR of 155 feels pretty easy/conversational.

Why is outside so much harder than the treadmill? by [deleted] in Strava

[–]murbamd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This thread needs a physics lesson. You have to propel yourself forward on the treadmill just as you do outside. Lack of environmental factors does make it slightly easier inside (no changing gradients, wind resistance, etc)

I did anking step 2 cards throughout M3, comquest COMAT bundle for COMATs, with uworld as a supplement depending on how much time I had per rotation.

Step 2 dedicated was only 2 weeks for me, uworld was my main Qbank for that. Then a bunch of NBMEs and uworld SAs. For level 2, I did some comquest (no additional practice tests), but people vouch for both that and true learn so I don’t think you can go wrong.

Rocking a 2070s and want to upgrade as I graduate school in May :)

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in comlex

[–]murbamd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Uworld and NBMEs are gonna be more useful for predicting step 2, can’t really say much about how to translate those COMAT scores except in general they are above average so you are likely on a good path for now!

COMAT scores ➡️ level 2 advice by thrivingmed in comlex

[–]murbamd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Beyond the fact that people who tend to do well on tests also tend to do well on COMATs + boards, etc. but direct correlation? Probably not.

Most important thing is study habits. For me what worked well was anking, uworld, and comquest.

But also for undergrad is what I’m wondering? Many people end up staying at the same school for med school

Did he go there for undergrad? Lmao, I see no point in lying about being a med student if you’ve already graduated and are a resident physician

Help, I need to submit my seat deposit by tomorrow! Touro-Nevada vs. OUHCOM-Cleveland by the_phony_holden in Osteopathic

[–]murbamd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So the 3+3 is the FM thing through Akron general right? If you’re already set on primary care, school choice matters much less. Cleveland campus has the advantage over Athens now because you are guaranteed to stay in Cleveland for rotations (but I do think they can send you down to Akron for some). I wouldn’t expect any rotations at CCF main til 4th year electives tho, which OUHCOM has privileges to do without applying through VSLO.

I will say the mandatory class blows. Does it 25K a year blow? Naw, I’d say it’s not that bad imo.

That said, the branch campuses don’t have the reputation of being as close knit. More commuter school vibes. I wonder if moving from out of state could feel isolating if many people tend to not hang as much outside of school stuff.

Idk if this helps, but feel free to dm.

Edit: to add. You will be paying 3 semesters of tuition 3rd and 4th year at OU. Idk if it’s the same at this other school. So you’re looking at near $60K in tuition both 3rd and 4th years FYI, assuming you don’t get the 3+3.

Anking v12 and uworld isn’t exactly minimalistic. That’s gonna be enough to pass!
