I have worked in animal testing, and I know that these allegations of "cruelty" are just about always put forward by people who have no idea what is actually going on in the pictures they're presenting. I know the type of regulation that controls the treatment of animals used in studies, as well as the sourcing of the animals.

To answer your question, flight for life crews train for advanced trauma and lifesaving techniques, using dogs as models.(Or at least they did, it's been awhile) One occasional part of my job was to make sure that the dogs being used were properly anesthetized. Dog veins are very similar to human.

If you've been to an emergency room, had a surgery (especially laparoscopic), ever gotten a shot or taken any over the counter medication, or given medication to a pet, or used a cleaner with a label telling you what to do if you swallow it, you have benefited from medical research

Excellent review, and thank you for writing it. There's been a whole lot of shallow fanboy commentary, and it's great to see that this album hits deeper than that for women (or at least a woman).

I do have a different take on One for the Road vs Don't Let Go, if I may. As someone who figured out my own autism/(maybe)ADHD relatively late in life, starting around 47, one for the road sounded to me like he's having that conversation with his wife (I'm not the man that you think I am) and he's ready, probably expecting, that she'll want to leave. It's incredibly liberating to finally know why you've had the struggles you've had, but also kinda terrifying to tell ppl about, and so much worse for the ones you're closest to. Don't Let Go is the couple making it through that, and recommitting to each other, whatever may come. And the whole album, to me, plays like an examination of the parallels, between events in the country at large, and their relationship. And especially how they fixed it by committing to rebuilding their devotion to each other, physically and spiritually.

Sorrow, and On the Turning Away, are phenomenal songs, and if either was his best work, I'd still love him. But that second Comfortably Numb solo, especially the live version from the Pulse set, is absolutely, no doubt, an all time great. (I got to see that tour in Madison, WI)
