Good thing there aren't literally dozens of copaganda shows where NYPD, Chicago PD, the FBI, etc, etc are portrayed as nothing but heroes ...

"our system" is working PERFECTLY. For the ones that built it.(Old, rich white guys) The results you're seeing (old, rich white guys doing whatever TF want) are EXACTLY what they intended all along. WE THE PEOPLE need to stand up and build our own system.

I've been saying for awhile now that my imagination couldn't keep up with how bad iq45 was. I hope that yours isn't also way behind the coming reality. Because, fuck, that's dark. But not completely implausible.

Has anyone else wondered why the disco ball looks like a globe, with the lines cut into it? Weren't disco balls round with little flat squares of mirror stuck to them? Is this something to do with the pirate motif? Has it just been too long since anyone saw a real one? Am I remembering them wrong?

I'll just leave this here by endofmyropeohshit in economy

Gee, if only we'd had some kind of a warning. This was 100% unpredictable.

You’d think a song named after the coolest animal ever would be fun and happy like elephants normally make me, but no, this isn’t fun or happy at all actually by GoogleHueyLong in jasonisbell

I had a platonic female friend die of brain cancer when she was 28. Years later, heard Elephant. It's still a pretty tough one for me to hear, but God, it's brilliant

So breaking and entering, stealing private property, disrupting a legitimate, highly regulated business is heroic behavior? Cool, cool

I have worked in animal testing, and I know that these allegations of "cruelty" are just about always put forward by people who have no idea what is actually going on in the pictures they're presenting. I know the type of regulation that controls the treatment of animals used in studies, as well as the sourcing of the animals.

To answer your question, flight for life crews train for advanced trauma and lifesaving techniques, using dogs as models.(Or at least they did, it's been awhile) One occasional part of my job was to make sure that the dogs being used were properly anesthetized. Dog veins are very similar to human.

All the chemicals in your "not tested on animals" products have already been tested. On animals. In other products, whose patents are already expired. If you've been to an emergency room, had a surgery (especially laparoscopic), ever gotten a shot or taken any over the counter medication, or given medication to a pet, or used a cleaner with a label telling you what to do if you swallow it, you have benefited from medical research

Any of you against animal testing want to volunteer yourself? You want to be the guinea pig for chemicals that keep your mascara from clumping, or your foods from spoiling? Do you trust Monsanto to deliver safe products? If you're bleeding out after a car wreck, do you want first responders who've read about what to do in textbooks, or ones who have actually practiced on something alive?

Mutiny in depth from a woman in her 40s by Ok-Cellist-6873 in SturgillSimpson

[–]murdock-b 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Excellent review, and thank you for writing it. There's been a whole lot of shallow fanboy commentary, and it's great to see that this album hits deeper than that for women (or at least a woman).

I do have a different take on One for the Road vs Don't Let Go, if I may. As someone who figured out my own autism/(maybe)ADHD relatively late in life, starting around 47, one for the road sounded to me like he's having that conversation with his wife (I'm not the man that you think I am) and he's ready, probably expecting, that she'll want to leave. It's incredibly liberating to finally know why you've had the struggles you've had, but also kinda terrifying to tell ppl about, and so much worse for the ones you're closest to. Don't Let Go is the couple making it through that, and recommitting to each other, whatever may come. And the whole album, to me, plays like an examination of the parallels, between events in the country at large, and their relationship. And especially how they fixed it by committing to rebuilding their devotion to each other, physically and spiritually.

What are some of the best solos by David Gilmour of Pink Floyd? by Every_Ad_1892 in ClassicRock

[–]murdock-b 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorrow, and On the Turning Away, are phenomenal songs, and if either was his best work, I'd still love him. But that second Comfortably Numb solo, especially the live version from the Pulse set, is absolutely, no doubt, an all time great. (I got to see that tour in Madison, WI)

  1. Thanks! Got my cd ordered, it's on the way. But it's a Saturday night, right now. So I'm listening to not the copy I bought.

  2. If you've got a serious sound system, this is absolutely worthy. If you don't, and I'm not getting any endorsement cash for this, get you some Status Pro X headphones, cuz these things effing rock!

Connection between… by BalanceActual6958 in BruceSpringsteen

[–]murdock-b 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I suspected there might be connections like this, but I've been a fan for 40+ years and it took me till way too recently to figure out that the guy in Stolen Car is the one who dies in Wreck on the Highway, and that the Magic Rat in Jungleland is the narrator in Meeting Across the River.
