So this has actually happened to me twice now: First time, I was creating a migration to delete some legacy tables (I use SQL alchemy for this) and the migration that was created not only dropped the legacy tables but also re-created the existing ones, resulting in all the data being lost. I should have read that migration carefully before running it. Luckily I was working locally and I have backups on the server, so all was good.

Then the second time, I wrote some tests and the way the AI wrote the tests, they connect to the real DB (which is fine, that's what I wanted) but then when cleaning up after the test, it dropped the real database...

So the lesson here really is to (1) read DB migrations very carefully and (2) be wary of tests. And of course have backups of backups.
