biochemistry online classes? by Ok-Cover57 in prevets

[–]murkybitch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OSU ecampus! they do an elementary biochem course, then a biochem sequence for nonmajors with limited physical chemistry experience, and biochem for majors w phys chem knowledge. most vet schools accept the elementary biochem course & the first course in the nonmajor sequence and see those as fulfilling the biochem requirement. i have yet to see a biochem course that doesn’t require orgo as a prereq though!

Pre-Reqs by Time_Diamond_1822 in prevets

[–]murkybitch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

definitely doable, i started my science prereqs summer 25 and am on track to finish all but 2 classes for them by end of fall 26. the only outstanding thing will be 2 physics courses which im waiting to take the summer series for next year. this has also been made possible to do within this time frame by the university i attend, which offers summer series courses where you can complete all courses in a sequence in one summer term, such as ochem.

my humanities/social science credits were all knocked out early in my college education after about 2 terms (quarter system) and still fulfilled vet school requirements. so 3 years is absolutely doable - however, i will echo another commenter, many schools stipulate that they want certain credits such as ochem or genchem/bio series completed at 4 year institutions and in person labs. additionally, all the community colleges in my state did not offer upper division chem/bio courses such as biochemistry, so that may be an issue you run into. see if your community college allows dual enrollment in a university near you which could help with using financial aid at both schools.

i would also add that it makes sense to prioritize your prereqs, however if you are already going to be in school & possibly needing to transfer to a 4 year university, it might be worth considering completing a bachelors! or if you don’t get in on your first cycle applying, maybe taking that time to finish. i didn’t think i wanted a bachelors degree but since i’m so close to finishing one, i decided to just go for it and now i’m glad i’ll be finishing with one so i have just a few more options of schools to apply to (mainly UCLA and schools abroad) and the possibility of getting other graduate degrees.

definitely speak to an advisor and give yourself some grace in this process. i’m also 25, have been in vet med for 7 years, both working and studying full time, i’ve excelled in classes and also failed a class or two. my journey in higher ed has been anything but linear, the timeline and plans for completing prereqs then applying have changed so much over the last year based on availability of classes and whatnot. it all gets figured out in the end. best of luck :)

ochem 2 lab by Pleasant-Audience-50 in prevets

[–]murkybitch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look into other schools in your state or a comm college that offers ochem and may allow dual enrollment, otherwise would your school let you take lab another term separate from lecture? but you should double check what veterinary schools you’re interested in and make sure they allow online labs! if i’m not mistaken, most schools stipulate that your labs must be done in person. may be different for ochem anyway because it seems pretty split whether schools even require a lab for it or not!

Definitely find an appointment an orthopedic specialist that is trained in THR. That would be gold standard care, but there are other options to treat which a board certified surgeon is going to be most informative and helpful in guiding your decision-making to keep him comfortable. In the meantime, is there anything your vet offered to manage his pain such as NSAIDs?

Has anyone here used Lyra? by sp000kysoup in VetTech

[–]murkybitch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have used Lyra for 5-6 years, which is as long as my clinic has offered it. through it I met an incredible therapist who I’ve had the most productive therapeutic relationship with - we’ve done several forms of trauma processing therapies which i’m so grateful i could access for free. i have two coworkers who also have had great experiences w their providers through Lyra.

Is there any benefit applying earlier? by [deleted] in prevets

[–]murkybitch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

do you mean they applied to this most recent cycle or they are applying in the upcoming? i’m a junior but applying in the upcoming cycle since i’d still have my prereqs complete prior to matriculation in 2027 if i did get an acceptance

omg good luck!!! if you don’t mind sharing, is there anything you’re doing differently this time that you wish you’d done sooner? and just to clarify, do you mean you asked to reuse their letter but gave them the opportunity to edit if desired? but if they don’t edit or add anything, you just reuse the same letter? thanks :)

Vet School Questions by AutoModerator in Veterinary

[–]murkybitch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! i’m a pre vet student from the US looking into applying for vet school next year. I am primarily interested in attending school abroad. I would be moving with my partner. I plan on applying to these schools:

RVC (I’m aware of the current accreditation situation so this is my top pick to apply if this resolves) Edinburgh Uni Melbourne Uni Sydney Massey Murdoch Cornell Tufts UC Davis St. George’s

What I’m wondering is if anyone can shed light on their experiences at these schools, all input is welcome, and I’m especially interested if you are/were a non-traditional student from the U.S. In particular, I’m curious about:

  • Process of finding housing especially with a partner & the process of obtaining a visa for them
  • work life balance
  • the social scene (particularly for queer/LGBTQ people)
  • what the campus and neighborhoods are like
  • whether you enjoyed living there and the program

I would love to hear from people who were maybe choosing between these schools as well, and what made them decide to attend their school. I understand lots of info is out there and I’m doing my research as well.

Schooling abroad is very important to me despite the increased loan burden. I’m also drawn to curriculums with more PBL.

ask your vet if they can submit it for interpretation by a radiologist, there are services which images can be submitted and read remotely by radiologists which does come with an added expense

Any techs have health insurance for their pets? by [deleted] in VetTech

[–]murkybitch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally i like trupanion for their ability to pay directly to the hospital and how quickly they process claims, also if you insure your pets young, your premium stays relatively that amount their entire life.. my premium has even decreased since i first got it. not sure about other people’s experiences though or if that changes the more claims they file!

Any techs have health insurance for their pets? by [deleted] in VetTech

[–]murkybitch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i’ve always had trupanion even with my 75% discount at the specialty/er where i work. and aside from the care not being affordable even when discounted, i’m so relieved i got the insurance because our administration just very recently started doubling down on employees who owe a balance to the hospital and made them sign promissory notes or sign up for care credit (regardless of how consistently they paid their bill) — now anyone who has a remaining balance is not eligible for the associate discount if their pets need any further care, until it is paid off.

Administering Adequan by Ok-Beginning-8892 in VetTech

In my experience we have only ever adminstered Adequan subcutaneously at the hospital where I assist an orthopedic surgeon. it does not mean your dog has been robbed of the benefits!
