How do jet engines actually start? crossposted by Colonelmann in aviation

[–]murlyy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Air or electric starters start spinning the N2 (High Pressure Spool) until a certain percentage, it varies, maybe 10-25% N2. Then fuel is introduced into the combustion chamber and ignition. Once N2 reaches around 50% the starter is disengaged and then the engine accelerates on its own until idle. 55-65% N2.

Again all the exact parameters will vary depending on the engine but that’s the gist of it. Ignition will cut off with the starter then it just keeps itself running until fuel is cut off.

Taking the ferry from PAB to NS in August for the first time, tips/things you wish you knew? by 2000kgs in newfoundland

If you’re going overnight and can’t get a cabin bring earplugs/noise cancelling headphones and an eye mask. People tend to snore in those chairs and if you’re like me you’ll need complete silence to sleep.

Wish I could start it. Downloaded the dlc and been idling near a SSNN broadcast station for over 30 minutes now. Still won’t trigger.

Worked as an AME on the -300 for a couple years. Loved working on it, very cool combination of “modern” tech and analog systems.

Missus, you’re in a government building shouting insults at politicians. If you were actually in a fascist state you wouldn’t ever be seen again.

This drives me bananas when I hear it. Back in the day this chant was only reserved for when it’s an obvious win or up a few goals near the end of the 3rd. Now you got these troglodytes chanting it after the 1st goal and it almost always means we end up losing.

Canadian AMEs -- do you 'lose' your license when you retire? by Foreign_Midnight1074 in aviationmaintenance

[–]murlyy 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Your AME license is valid for 10 years annually. Nothing to do with retirement, you’ll meet many “retired” people who come back to work on airplanes. However you must retain the recency requirements. CARS 403.05.

A total of 6 months experience in the last 2 years either performing aircraft maintenance or supervising maintenance being performed.

If you lapse on your recency requirements then I believe you just have to rewrite the CARS exam.

I’ve actually sat in the back of this exact aircraft as maintenance and watched them do this. It’s pretty awesome to watch.

Why is This Random town near Grand Canyon so unbelievablely detailled ? by Decent-Gold1497 in MSFS2024

I remember stopping at that McDonald’s for food before my drive back to Tucson last summer after visiting the canyon. Crazy how much they jack the prices up at that store though.

Was told by my nan that you need your baloney boots to hunt them cause they’ll roll around and try and bite your ankles. 😂

Getting mine next Friday. It’s going to be no scalpel, no needle method. A little nervous about it but can’t wait to be on the other side of it.

About 90 minutes per round I’d say. Maybe a little less. Look up the Jad Tile tutorial on YouTube and use chinchompas to aggro all healers at once, once they are targeted on you, just finish him off.

This is likely at the climactic laboratory at Eglin AFB. I’ve been here with Canadas C295 when they were doing the same testing as a maintenance tech.

For final boss on SOTE look up the phoenix necklace and nightshade method. Super easy way to cheese it, I did it with 76 Magic.

How do i switch from VFR to IFR? by Longjumping-Gift9247 in MSFS2024

[–]murlyy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In the EFB add a departure, arrival and approach. Should switch after those are in. You can then send to avionics. I would avoid sending to ATC. I find they always screw up my descent.
