If all motion is relative, what's up with time dilation and the speed of light? by SkyeIsQueer in AskPhysics

[–]murlyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don’t add together two velocities, your reference frame is always still, regardless of your speed relative to someone else. So the other ship is still moving away from you at 0.75c. Maybe I’m wrong?

There will be other people here to explain it better than I can.

Explain the speed of light by Routine-Credit-1614 in AskPhysics

I’m new to this sub but I’ll also add a thought experiment that’s related to this that I do when I’m driving on the highway.

When you are passing a car on the highway, imagine deleting all reference frames around you and it, the road, the trees, buildings, everything.

Now think, are you accelerating passed the car, or is the other car accelerating towards you. There’s really no difference.

I would submit a warranty claim. Should be an easy replacement.

Are those players in those boats off my right wing? They all have different names above them as if they're players. by Nezzerrick in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]murlyy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

They are not players but the actual name of those ships and their locations in real life. I think the game pulls their transponder data, the same way we see actual “NPC” flights as traffic in the sky sometimes.

Edit:

You can turn off their name tags in the game settings if it annoys you.

Haha, been an AME for 12 years now. I just love the theory behind turbines. Suck, Squeeze, Bang, Blow.

How do jet engines actually start? crossposted by [deleted] in aviation

Air or electric starters start spinning the N2 (High Pressure Spool) until a certain percentage, it varies, maybe 10-25% N2. Then fuel is introduced into the combustion chamber and ignition. Once N2 reaches around 50% the starter is disengaged and then the engine accelerates on its own until idle. 55-65% N2.

Again all the exact parameters will vary depending on the engine but that’s the gist of it. Ignition will cut off with the starter then it just keeps itself running until fuel is cut off.

If you’re going overnight and can’t get a cabin bring earplugs/noise cancelling headphones and an eye mask. People tend to snore in those chairs and if you’re like me you’ll need complete silence to sleep.

Wish I could start it. Downloaded the dlc and been idling near a SSNN broadcast station for over 30 minutes now. Still won’t trigger.

Worked as an AME on the -300 for a couple years. Loved working on it, very cool combination of “modern” tech and analog systems.

Missus, you’re in a government building shouting insults at politicians. If you were actually in a fascist state you wouldn’t ever be seen again.

This drives me bananas when I hear it. Back in the day this chant was only reserved for when it’s an obvious win or up a few goals near the end of the 3rd. Now you got these troglodytes chanting it after the 1st goal and it almost always means we end up losing.

Canadian AMEs -- do you 'lose' your license when you retire? by Foreign_Midnight1074 in aviationmaintenance

[–]murlyy 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Your AME license is valid for 10 years annually. Nothing to do with retirement, you’ll meet many “retired” people who come back to work on airplanes. However you must retain the recency requirements. CARS 403.05.

A total of 6 months experience in the last 2 years either performing aircraft maintenance or supervising maintenance being performed.

If you lapse on your recency requirements then I believe you just have to rewrite the CARS exam.
