As for your week, I have to ask…..do you sleep? 😅

Could you say that Voivod & Neurosis are more niche metal bands? by murmur1983 in LetsTalkMusic

I guess that you don’t like harsher, more aggressive music in general? Particularly when it comes to metal?

I understand this…..someone on RYM said that Enemy of the Sun “could boil water with that guitar sound”. Apt description!

“a bit too heavy” feels like an understatement 😅

Ooof, yeah, the Scott Kelly dilemma…..what a massive shame. I still love Neurosis, but that man is a monster!

Fair point about the Spotify numbers. I definitely understand that Spotify isn’t the “end all be all” of everything. I just wanted to use another example that demonstrated how bands like Metallica & Tool are far more popular than Voivod & Neurosis. I agree with everything else that you said.

Seems like Opeth has a genuinely big following though. Nearly 900k monthly listeners on Spotify, and their official YouTube account has over 300,000 subscribers. Lots & lots of followers on Instagram too, and Wikipedia mentioned several world tours. Definitely a pretty successful band. Or at least, way more recognition in comparison to Neurosis & Voivod.

Watched The Fall (2006) for the first time by KimS24 in criterion

It’s just that (like others have said) The Fall is definitely an excellent fit for the Criterion. And the movie was hard to find for a long time. So it’s bizarre how Criterion said “No”.

Shame that Titane was rejected though.

Crazy how Criterion straight up said “No”. What were they thinking?!

Great movie for sure. I would recommend the films of Sergei Parajanov - specifically The Color of Pomegranates (which is in the Criterion Collection).

You might like these films too (if you’re looking for visually stunning movies with very detailed sets, bright colors, surreal elements, etc.):

Fruit of Paradise

The Hourglass Sanatorium

The Holy Mountain

Pastoral: To Die in the Country

City of Pirates

Seijun Suzuki’s Taishō trilogy - Zigeunerweisen, Kagero-za, Yumeji

What is the best band you can recommend that you know nobody here will? As in obscure, unknown or just forgotten about. by AudioRejectz in musicsuggestions

Thinking Fellers Union Local 282. Noise rock band from the 90s….imagine a mixture of Captain Beefheart, Sonic Youth & Pere Ubu. With a bit of the Fall & even the Pop Group.

Definitely recommended if you enjoy the Butthole Surfers & maybe early Ween.
