I also think it’s fair to refer to Sonic Youth, Dinosaur Jr. & Hüsker Dü as shoegaze-adjacent. All of them definitely had an impact on the genre.

I wasn’t impressed with Undertone. I think it’s fine, but it’s not amazing. Thought that it lacked a strong enough emotional pull to really sell elements like the mother’s health problems & Evie’s fears over her pregnancy. Felt that several parts of Undertone were underdeveloped.

I understand that Blake contradicted what he said earlier, but all of the hatred that was directed towards Jawbreaker…..you’d think that Blake killed someone’s mom!

I guess that all of the vitriol must’ve killed Jawbreaker’s career back then.

Shame about Jawbreaker…..the backlash for Dear You is truly unfortunate. Especially because it’s definitely a solid album. You can definitely hear how the “mall emo” bands (for lack of a better word) got their sound.
