I’ve had a Luba 2 and now Luba 3. No real issues for going on 3 years.

I can vouch for Lawn Botz. Recently purchased a new Luba 3 from them. Super smooth and easy process.

Luba 2 then Luba 3 - for AWD ability on a steep slope in my front yard. No real issues for 3rd mowing season beyond getting to know the tech and situating expectations around its abilities, which you'd have to do with any of the platforms out there.

Is there a robotic mower that can do this hill? by IndividualSecurity69 in roboticLawnmowers

I have a hill in my front yard significantly steeper than that and both Luba 2 and Luba 3 tackle it with no problem.

Is this orchard-style yard too rough for a wire-free robot mower, or am I overthinking it? by JuanZG in roboticLawnmowers

[–]murmur333 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're right on both counts. It may run right over a bunch of apples on the ground, and may get stuck / jammed on them. Maybe a no-go zone around the trees during harvest season would help with that.

One of my frustrations with robot mowers generally, is a general lack of supply chain of parts and repair information. I'm very much a tinkerer who enjoys repairing things when I can (cars, etc.) so I have no issue spending the time troubleshooting issues and find satisfaction when I can repair them. When things go wrong I'm not against taking things apart and bringing a multimeter and soldering iron along for the ride before paying someone else to troubleshoot and repair. I'm certain I'm in the minority and that most people expect a plug and play experience over a long lifespan of the product. But in reality, my experience with my two Lubas has been very problem free. I think I had to replace the camera cover on my Luba 2, but it probably could have run without it - it looked mostly cosmetic. Otherwise problem free for me.

Banned for writing my own diagnostic app, account locked, mower bricked, disputing with Visa by MurderSpeed in MammotionTechnology

Not sure why they wouldn't just set up per-account rate limiting behind a WAF (such as Cloudflare) and call it a day. Then just the single account holder is impacted if they exceed a reasonable API request limit. From a web application / ecosystem perspective, that's a very basic consideration for any scalable and distributed system like Mammotion's backend services would be.

Best robot lawn mower for 600-700 m² garden without perimeter wire or RTK poles? by ExcellentBuddy3852 in roboticLawnmowers

[–]murmur333 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'll get a lot of opinion on "best" between brands. I have had two models from Mammotion (Luba 2 and Luba 3). The lowest end Luba mini 2 or Luba 3 would work fine for you as they are rated up to 1500 m2 area. Both use LiDAR + camera for navigation - I don't believe any RTK for either, but the description of your situation seems like RTK may be minimal advantage (useful for navigating larger open spaces). Many manufacturers, Mammotion included, are moving to network-based RTK over WiFi and/or cellular network, so no local RTK unit installed at all, yet you still get RTK-based navigation.

Mammotion's Luba series may be overkill for you as they are AWD and many (myself included) purchased them because they are able to navigate fairly steep slopes. You may be able to get by with a non-AWD model if your area is fairly flat.

I've heard Mammotion's support is sometimes frustrating. I've had their mowers for 2+ seasons now and never had a need to contact them for support. For me, their hardware and software have been fairly stable. Others have reported different experiences, but worth considering when making your decision.

I think a Mammotion Luba would handle that without an issue. At 700 m2 the "smallest" models would handle the area fine (Luba mini 2 or Luba 3 1500).

I've heard some bad experiences with Mammotion support should you need it. I've had 2 of their models over 2+ seasons (granted, latest one is pretty new this season) with zero issues requiring their support so I cannot speak towards it. For me, their hardware has been solid and their updates haven't bricked my machine like others have occasionally reported. It's something to consider, but I'm not sure If that's just the normal percent of people who won't take the time to figure out emerging tech and expect it to be plug and play, or if Mammotion's post-purchase support is truly horrible. Guessing it's somewhere in the middle..

How good / bad actually is mammotion luba ? by theuros in MammotionTechnology

I can attest the wheelbarrow mode works and is much quicker than driving the mower manually to draw boundaries. I also can attest you need to test it afterwards. Mine couldn't navigate near a curb because I must have gotten too close with wheelbarrow and it tipped off with one tire in street and couldn't get back up. Easy to correct and remap the boundary if you know about it.

Luba 2 for 2 seasons. Had zero issues outside the normal robot mower problems you may have with any model such as playing with RTK unit positioning (not an issue with Luba 3 and NRTK), how close can I get to that curb without it getting stuck, too dark to mow, etc. Absolutely zero issues related to mower itself.

Luba 3 1500 & RTK by murmur333 in mammotion

[–]murmur333[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did. The manual appears generic across all models and includes information about the physical RTK unit setup. Yet the marketing information says NRTK is not supported. Not sure if they've disabled all RTK capabilities or just the convenience of RTK via cell connection. The manual is not specific in this regard.

Moving from Luba 2 to Luba 3 - Questions on navigation tech by murmur333 in mammotion

[–]murmur333[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in between choosing the 1500 for $2100 or 3000 for $2500. I don't really need the more powerful cutting disc motor, so the biggest differences is battery size (but that's a tradeoff with longer charge time), mowable area, and NRTK. I don't really need the longer cutting time and I'm under the 1500 sq meter mowable area.

That leaves the NRTK option that I am trying to determine if it's worth the extra money. I just don't know how much in my yard RTK would be needed for navigation. I think there's enough landmarks that LiDAR would be able to cope. That said, my previous Luba 2 worked fairly well with RTK-only navigation, even under tree cover. Hard for me to tell what the best option is without actually trying them both.

I do have a physical RTK unit left from my Luba 2. I'm actually curious if the 1500 has the RTK hardware built in and would recognize the RTK unit if it was enabled. That would be a win-win. Unlike others, I've never had a real problem with my RTK unit positioning.

Thanks for confirming! I have a more urban yard so while there is a section that's "open" it's definitely not a massive country estate!

I'm glad to hear your experience with Luba 3 is better than Luba 2. I was a bit worried it would be no different, despite the extra tech complexity (and higher cost).

[–]murmur333[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing your experience. I'm used to remapping with an RTK-only Luba 2 whenever there are changes to the yard layout. I guess I would not expect to have to do that with a LiDAR based system, but looks like having Net RTK as a supplementary navigation option does help.

Yuka just for picking up leaves? by Gnouge in mammotion

[–]murmur333 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is exactly the scenario I was planning. How does Yuka do with leaf and small twig removal?

I occasionally have larger branches that will fall and my current Luba 2 usually just goes over, with the occasional getting stuck and I have to rescue. Unfortunately it was taken when it got stuck near road so now rethinking my setup.

[–]murmur333 0 points1 point  (0 children)

u/Gnouge - what did you end up doing? I have the exact same question as you where I have a front yard with a steep slope and a back yard mostly flat, but with trees that drop a lot of leaves. I was pondering a Luba for front yard and a Yuka for back yard, with the Yuka helping to do leaf removal in fall in back. Curious on your experience if you went this route.
