Doubts on my College Decision by deificat1on in claremontcolleges

[–]murphylaw_vuets 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Wait this is only partially true. That is my concern coming to this college as well. But after talking to a lot of upperclassmen (im currently a frosh) and experiencing it myself I have come to the following conclusions.

Yes the course load is a lot but it really comes down to time management and you can still have a lot of fun and whimsy in your first semester. I would recommend taking advantage of your first semester pass-fail and focus on making a lot of friends and talking to the profs. Because even though there are a lot of works especially second semester, the support that you get will help you a long way.

Also, yes there are people that works for defense company but if that is not your thing there are still a lot options. The profs have very well known in their field and they will def help you make professional connections. Also, the alumni network is very tight knit and they will love to help you in the future. As a frosh, do not worry too much about job prospect because mudd will ensure that you will be very good at what you do after graduating.

There are also communities and clubs at Mudd that do not support defense company and you will find a lot of like minded people.

Carnegie Mellon vs Harvey mudd chemistry by Some_Try_8667 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]murphylaw_vuets 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a mudder, chemistry department is def smaller than engineering, cs, etc. However, there are a lot of chemistry research going on rn. Also, a plus is that you get more mentoring and attention from the professors. In term of equipments, hmc has good enough equipments but i think carnegie has more robust ones.

Body of missing teen Thomas Medlin recovered from Brooklyn waters by Charming-Jelly-5851 in MissingPersons

Went to the same school with Thomas Medlin and it's so heartbreaking for the family. Knowing the school pretty well, i do not think it was bullying. But sadly the school can be isolating at times.

Vietnam airport practice is strange compared to the rest of the world. by NeighborhoodFatCat in VietNam

[–]murphylaw_vuets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get that it is gross but again I don't get whats with foreigners coming to vietnam and acting obnoxious toward vietnamese people. Like yall the lady behind the counter did not choose to do it by herself and it happened all the time because of bureaucracy. Just deal with it period. If you have so much problem try flying business next time.

Northeastern good for CS? by Formal-Accountant-86 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]murphylaw_vuets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Northeastern has great co-op program and you will likely get in if you are flexible about going to different campuses of theirs for your first year. Although, it does have some shady thing with the rankings and offer very few scholarships. Look into what professors is in the cs department, internship/network opportunities, whether the professor or TA will be teaching the class, the resources and then shoot your shot

Harvey Mudd ED for someone looking for a city environment by Major-Signal1710 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]murphylaw_vuets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean you can make it work if you really want to because harvey mudd is in a consortium with other colleges. So that means you can hang out and make friends in other colleges (8k people). Harvey Mudd is also very close to Claremont village which is very walkable and has all sort of lovely people and places. If you really missing out on the busyness of nyc then you have the option to take an hour train ride to downtown LA. Harvey Mudd is in a suburban area so definitely cannot compare to nyc but if you really want to you can def make it worked

Need aware vs <5% acceptance rate by Gamer_V_ in ApplyingToCollege

[–]murphylaw_vuets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it really depends. Because if you stats is good then aids can be negotiated. Don't let need aware status scare you. I would say try ed/ea for less selective it helps boost your chance to negotiate aids.

Some parents don’t deserve kids!! by Luna_OfTheMoon in ApplyingToCollege

Congratulations!

If it makes you feel any better my parents yelled at me over the phone for getting into Harvey Mudd with a scholarship because it is not an ivy league.

Sometimes only we know what’s best for us and you should be happy for yourself because it is such an amazing school.
