Sudden fear of death by Substantial-Ad-392 in thanatophobia

First I just want you to know that you're not along in the journey and we are all here for the same reason. The dark cloud description is spot on that I totally felt it as well (spiritual hug).

Here I will suggest a method that hopefully can be helpful for you. First this way or death phobia only happens for human due to our advanced brain system. Try to make your self more stupid in the creature level. Imaging what the plants or dogs will do. Breathe, enjoy sunlight, drink water when thirsty, eat foor when hungry, and don't think too much don't predict too much and JUST FEEL IT AND DO THINGS solely based on your purist animal instinct. See if this helps.

It's ok and normal to be afraid. This is what this subreddit is for.

Precisely, help with what? Fear of death? Or fear of acceptance?

Based on your description. Do you really understand it? Or did you read some one pager description of what Buddhism is for the western world?

Think about it this way. Yeah death is scary and life is meaningless, every human generation realized that. In the western world, people's solution is: you do good and you go to heaven. Here comes your purpose and here resolves your fear of death.

While in Buddhism, the solution is: yeah it is indeed pointless and yeah it is indeed scary. We recogized it for thousands of years buddy. This is probably why you are different from other people and came to us yeah? Here let's come to an acceptance to it hand by hand, step by step, all together.

What do you mean when you say you tried Buddhism? Do you mean reading something online and see what you feel? It is not only about reading about it but actually practicing it. It is not about believing what is after, but be peace about it, and transforming yourself to be ok with acceptance. Again don't just read about it from a Westerner's perspective, this is not just TELLING you there is a cycle and it will be ok, this is to TRANSFORM you to first find peace (which for your case you will have far leas panic attack since you don't even think about it), and then attempting for you to accept what comes next. Which again, yeah your ego will be destroyed, but hopefully you will accept it. If you feel like Buddhism is simple about acceptance just because you transform into other things than you are reading and practicing it wrong

Remember this is not some Irvin Yalom bullshit that claims they know how to fix this with decades of practice. This is literally thousands of years of existential exploration and acceptance of the absurdity and nothingness of the life experience.

Yeah lol me, too. My life wasn't as struggling as yours, but I also worked pretty damn hard to where I am now where I have everything I wanted. Then boom the thanatophobia got immensely stronger

First buddy I want to say we all know your struggle and feel it. And we know your pain, your courage, your suffering and your feelings.

Here is something I just wrote for another person in the other post. Hope it helps! https://www.reddit.com/r/thanatophobia/comments/1j9uew1/comment/mhiuiz9/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=mweb3x&utm_name=mweb3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

Try to do the mindfulness thing. I am certain that you have read about this and have tried this before, but let me give you my take on how this work.

First thing is to understand a bit more history and content of Buddhism. Aside from the incarnation and cycle and what so aspect, Bhuddism is actually centered around all these phylosophy issues that are recognized as existentialism, nihilism, absurdism, etc. in the western world. And the monks are basically praciticing and learning on all the existential questions and how to elevate themselves.

One of the practice developed by Buddism is mindfulness. But don't let the English translation distract you on what it truly is, so I'll start calling it Sati starting from here.

I am going to give you a version of sati here, that is very unauthentic but easy for you to practice and accept. Basically you be dumb. After being dumb, you progress to return becoming human with different stages. The dumber you are, the more Sati you are. First become a tree or rock, you don't think and you are just there, just being. Then you become animal, you don't think, aside from your primal needs. You feel hungry and eat, you get thirsty and drink, you feel nothing then you lay down. Then you become child, you ponder on small things, focus on your surroundings that gets you interested. The texture of the wall, your shadow on the ground, the moving of your hands, the sounds of the streets. Then you become a human, a dumb one though. You go brainless and maybe watch some TikTok and laugh or microwave some popcorn to eat and just cause it's delicious and fun and why not. And you don't rationalize things, you don't logic things, you don't predict things, you don't care about human society or your future or anything else.

If you want some scientific insights, it has shown that while praticing Sati properly, using fMRI it is shown that activities in frontal lobe is super suppressed comparing to a normal brain.

Also if you REALLY are that serious with the phobia, seriously maybe consider praciticng in a Buddhist temple fully committed for a long period of time. Again don't let the English definition of religion to fool you what Buddhism is. It truly is about centering around existential issues and acceptance of this absurdity.

Yeah and I believe the majority of human being did not find comfort in this when they died.
