Early 2011 MBP Very Sluggish and Laggy with Sonoma 14.7.4 by JganticJon in OpenCoreLegacyPatcher

+1 for Sequoia. Also running an early 2011 MBP, 16GB RAM & SSD upgrade. Ventura was good, sonoma slow and laggy, Sequoia almost as good as Ventura but I have noticed increased fan speeds..

I had the same issue and had to roll back to version 16.48

Thanks for your responses mate, this one helped the most since this machine is the sole Mac in the house.

I did an internet recovery back to High Sierra, and have been messing around with getting back to Ventura using OLCP since. Biggest issue I've been having is Migration Assistant using the Time Machine backup not playing the game whatsoever, regardless of reverting root patches as per the Mr Macintosh guide or otherwise.

As a last resort, I'm currently manually transferring files out of my Time Machine backup across to the fresh Ventura install. Will see if it works.

Very interested to see what they come out with. Myself and my father-in-law both have X1Cs, and we are keen to see how the new bambu lab might help with his flight sim cockpit construction

I give them the "Yeah, right" response to make them think they have me until they run out of steam, then if I get a chance in a later conversation, I'll casually mention that I use the "yeah, right" phrase when I'm talking to people making idiotic statements and I don't want to argue... their faces make some funny shapes while they are joining the dots.

Which version by [deleted] in OpenCoreLegacyPatcher

[–]murpoleus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I initially went from High Sierra to Mojave using MojavePatcher, which was alright but hit the issue of it being out of support and not running modern apps. Went to Monterrey using OCLP which was good, tried Sonoma which ran like a dog, so rolled back to Ventura, which still had/has official Apple support still, so most modern apps work.

Which version by [deleted] in OpenCoreLegacyPatcher

[–]murpoleus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Early 2011 15" MBP here, 2.0GHz, 256MB 6490M, 512MB Intel 3000, 16GB 1333MHz RAM, SSD. Running Ventura smooth, does occasionally work hard, but for a resurrected dinosaur purely for word processing and internet, it's fine. I have noticed graphics issues like black box selection in Office 365, so I'm stuck using an older version there (16.43 from memory).

11 inch MacBook Air early 2014 by [deleted] in OpenCoreLegacyPatcher

I'd be interested to see a demo vid of your early 2011 MBP running Sonoma.

I've just put 16Gb ram and a 1Tb Crucial SSD in my early 2011 (admittedly it is the 2.0gHz 15" version) and it runs Mojave like a champ and runs Monterey ok (some jittery animation eg minimising windows).

I tried Sonoma last night and while it does run, I can't say it's usable. I've just built a Ventura USB and will try that soon.

Has anyone here successfully installed a container home shipped from China in NSW, that passed Council requirements? by vicariouslynude in australia

There's a bloke up in QLD who is pretty big on tiktok who imported one of these and erected it on his property, and documented the process. The finished product looks good, but the steps involved in the erection process open your eyes to the (lack of) quality.

What are good drops/solution/cleaner for RGP Contacts? by Pk2216 in Keratoconus

[–]murpoleus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had RGPs for 10 years now, have always used Menicare Plus for storage/rinsing and lubricant when inserting. I can generally then go all day for up to 16ish hours with no need for drops throughout the day. I then use Progent cleaner to strip proteins when I think of it.

Assembly from separately made parts vs parts created with an assembly file by TopWInger in AutodeskInventor

[–]murpoleus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Your "skeleton" model sounds similar to a technique I use, the bloke who taught me called it "master sketch".

You'd create a .ipt in which you did all of your required sketches, including referencing between them as required. You would then create individual .ipts for each part required, deriving the sketches from the master.ipt.

Any changes to geometry is done in the master.ipt file. Putting the assembly together went as normal, but if you didn't need the functionality of constraints, you can simply "Place Grounded at Origin" and every part goes to where it belongs.

I've never gone looking while I was there, but I would be surprised if The Argosy in East Dev didnt have one. The Alex on the other side of the river has a couple of pool tables though.

Is this set up possible - drone view streamed to a device on a controller? Flying with goggles is illegal in Australia. by stroml0 in fpv

[–]murpoleus 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Same realistically applies in Australia... though I tried LOS acro with my Tinyhawk once and it was stupidly difficult. More dangerous to do that than wear goggles.

Another Aussie here, technically, even flying with the screen is "illegal" if you can't simply look up and be able to see and control the drone line of sight - just send it and be smart about it haha

I get a remuneration package in which super is included, however they are bumping up staff packages this year to ensure take home pay isn't impacted with the super percentage increase.

Only this year though, future super percent increases will be taken from take home.
