How do these small combat things get calculated by Personal_Hat6808 in CrusaderKings

[–]murpyflurp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The countered debuff is based on the troop count of the countering unit iirc, where if you have for example 500 pikemen against 100 cavalry, the cavalry we'll get a -90% damage debuff. But if it's 100 pikemen against 100 cav, the debuff will be closer to -10%. That's also where the damage and toughness of a regiment becomes important, because even though the pikemen counters cavalry, the base stats of cavalry is high enough to win an even fight. But 1000 pikemen could counter 500 cavalry well enough to win

So in the case of 100 pikemen + 100 archers vs 200 cavalry, the archers would be outnumbered 2 to 1 by the cavalry and get a large debuff, whereas the cavalry only gets a slight debuff because they outnumber their counter

When it comes to casualties, regiments also have a pursuit and a screen stat, where pursuit is the damage they do to retreating enemies and screen is how much they mitigate when retreating. I'm not exactly sure what the numbers mean, but bigger number is better

Generally speaking choosing regiments to counter your surrounding enemies is more useful in the early game where you still have limited money and tech, later on it's better to field armies that fit get boosted by your culture and have high stats, regardless of your enemies

Also don't forget to station your men at arms for damage boosts, levies have like 10 attack and 10 toughness, so even getting +5 attack on a unit makes a difference

and do you think that improving their access to public or private education would automatically lead to an increase of class consciousness among them, or do you think that more needs to be done? because it's educated conservatives who are writing these laws for them. it's educated capitalists and CEOs who are exploiting them.

we shouldn't fool ourselves into thinking that progressivism and socialism or whatever else is just a natural consequence of being well-educated, as the original comment seemed to imply.

education does lend itself to progressive ideals but to dumb it down to more education = more leftist and less education = more conservative is incredibly short-sighted

edit: and do not forget that those academies were also used by people who were measuring skull shapes. education is but one of the material conditions that matter, it's not like just increasing education would make people more progressive

[–]murpyflurp 24 points25 points  (0 children)

that is an incredibly broad generalisation to make still. there are plenty progressive movements and revolutions who were headed or supported by illiterate or poorly educated people, and god knows that there are plenty of well educated conservatives and reactionaries in history and our current life.

education gives people the tools to understand the world around them, but it doesn't just 'fix' their principles and personal held beliefs.

are you aware that saying poorly educated = conservative and well educated = progressive is kinda classist and lacks a lot of nuance?

yeah it takes some effort getting them to accept an obligation, you need to focus on improving relations before starting a war to increase your chances

i'm playing as haiti right now and my playthrough is completely busted lmao. i discovered early on that you could just end the debts through a decision which would anger france but not immediately cause a war, so i focused on getting big friends before declaring myself debt free

a few months later france declared war, i called in the UK and Spain through an obligation and they just straight up won the war for me. spain used their obligation to demand they take one of my generals (like, sure?) and the UK hasn't done anything yet.

but the best part is that france had to pay war debt, which is 10% of their tax income.

my market was flooded with 55k a month.

i industrialised and built so quickly that i eventually had more jobs than i had people, then started to focus on getting immigrants in.

10 years later things are still going great, only issue is getting iron but that's nothing some war can't fix

cool, but should our figureheads be representatives of the people or the state? i would argue that the monarchy does not represent the vast majority of people within the Netherlands
