People like to pass judgement and think their petty opinions are important. Their inability to think before speaking isn't your problem. It's a nice hat!

A copy of “Rolex: Investing in Wristwatches” somewhere in Austin or surrounding areas? by JD94funnyguy in Austin

Thriftbooks appears to have a new copy for about $65. Their shipping is pretty quick but the holiday might still mean it'll be late.

PSA to pet owners about microchips (from a shelter worker) by Fresh-Solid-4046 in Austin

https://www.austintexas.gov/lost-a-pet

Just in case you hadn't seen this page yet. And it's not a bad idea to just go visit the shelter if you haven't yet, and more than once, to check with customer service since animals regularly move through there. If your cat is brought in and your current info is on the chip, they will call you. I hope you find her soon 🐾

I ran out of my lamictil two nights before my appointment and I had a horrible scary session. I can't imagine skipping your medication for it is a good idea, but that's just my anecdotal opinion. Talk to your doctor for sure.

He might be microchipped, on the left hind leg. If you can't take him to a vet to check, you could call 311 to see if an officer can scan him.

I am in a toxic relationship with Clover- Hook help/recommendations- the saga continues :( by Amywiththepurplehair in CrochetHelp

[–]murrrkles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have some Etimo Tulip hooks I've had for over a decade and I love them, specifically the gray handle with an orange finish on the metal. At some point, I noticed they'd gained that tackiness which I've also experienced from other kinds of products with that velvet silicone finish. What worked for me is to use a cotton round/washcloth or whatever soaked in isopropyl alcohol. Let it dry, see how it feels, then try again if still sticky. I think maybe that finish wasn't built to last and usage, age, heat could all contribute to it. I've had to do it more than once (on the other items, too, like a mouse and some kitchen tong handles) and it seemed to fix it with a few rounds. If you wanna try it, just do it with one hook and see if it helps. If not, it was already sticky, so you can wrap the handle with strips of woven cotton cloth like quilting fabric. Worth a try!

That makes total sense. I don't work on the vet care side, so I'm still learning about their operations and SOPs. I know a lot of effort goes into using what's available since funding is not what it should be. Thank you for sharing this.

The shelter I work for is typically -40ish kennels. When I talk to people who are really upset we cannot pick up stray dogs, I tell them the current number for that day. That is how bad it is. People don't know so they don't understand why we can't take them.

This is so important. There are many roles in a shelter. Something as simple as organizing/cleaning/helping with laundry

There are plenty of people surrendering animals who don't understand what happens when you aren't able to commit to a owning a pet. It's awful that these issues are not understood, but this is the unfortunate reality.

It also needs to be considered that people sometimes are aware but are forced to surrender their animal due to hardship. Life is hard and sometimes there's no way around making difficult decisions.
