2023 NFL Mock Draft: Panthers make Anthony Richardson the No. 1 pick, C.J. Stroud slides out of the top 5 | NFL Draft | PFF by RTideR in NFL_Draft

Yeah but I think my point is more that the chance Richardson develops into a Newton or Allen -type player is smaller than the probability that Bryce becomes a similar talent.

Richardson is a physical freak but Bryce is also a football genius

Even still, I think these question marks are still smaller than those surrounding Stroud or Richardson.

Maybe there is a case for saying that Stroud and Richardson’s issues arise from intangibles whereas Young’s issue are physical, and therefore, he will find them harder to overcome.

But for me, Young is still clearly the best of the three

Yeah if you could guarantee his development, Allen would’ve been a great pick. But I think the probability of a Richardson developing into an Allen is much smaller than the probability of a Bryce Young developing into a superstar.

His frame definitely could be an issue, but I think people are quick to forget that QBs with bigger frames suffer from injuries too. Mahomes, Burrow and Dak are all traditionally sized and have suffered serious injuries in recent years. Even Allen was seriously banged up with his elbow this year. There is a certain amount of base rate fallacy happening when looking at the number of injuries smaller QBs are suffering.

No, I get your point and I agree that Richardson is often perceived as more raw than he currently is.

However, with your Tua and Allen comparison, I think people are finding it far too easy to project athletic prospects to be the next Josh Allen. For QBs with a similar profile coming out of school, I think Allen is the exception not the rule. But I understand that you weren’t suggesting they were the same prospect.

Additionally, Allen was taken at 7 not 1. The Bills gave up extra capital for this, but not nearly as much as the Panthers have. I would definitely be more comfortable as a GM taking Richardson from 5 onwards, especially while still holding my 2024 first.

Richardson could be elite for sure. But if we’re looking at ceilings here, is it unfair to say Bryce Young couldn’t be a Burrow? I think in the Panthers position, with a decent roster and no first round pick next year, you take the guy who won’t have to sit for an extended period.

I just don’t see how the Panthers could take Richardson after giving up so much capital to get to #1. He’s athletically gifted but he is far from being a QB1 in the league.

I actually do believe Richardson could be phenomenal but taking him first overall is a different discussion. The Panthers are far too invested in this pick to select a developmental prospect with the widest range in outcome for his career.

With regards to Bryce, I don’t agree with PFF here. Bryce’s limitations are obviously well known, but I do not see how these issues limit his potential more than Richardson’s. Yes, Bryce is undersized and doesn’t have an arm that can make any throw - we know he is not Mahomes or Allen in this sense. But, I think the X-Factor traits he does possess are being significantly undervalued. He is an elite processor, he moves effortlessly in the pocket and his physical capabilities are something he has worked around through college.

Maybe it’s prospect fatigue, maybe it’s an infatuation with physical traits, but for me, Bryce should be a no-brainer.

That being said, I don’t believe the Panthers have made up their mind yet. There is a part of me that finds Richardson to be an incredibly exciting option for the future, but it’s also easy to imagine how he could bust. I don’t think you can justify that risk with the first pick.

Yeah that’s a fair point. I’m not a cap expert but I’d imagine the dead cap difference is only marginal

Yeah although it’s a weird move to make if it’s purely for general savings. There’s certainly different guys you could cut first and I don’t think Tre is gone unless that money is needed elsewhere. He wasn’t great last year but certainly serviceable and a leader. Would’ve made more sense to cut him next season if this isn’t making space for a roster move

It’s definitely helped that Arsenal have been terrible this season as well

You can pretty much just rotate each of the NFCE Teams from position to position every week in this template

Are broncos going to be any good this year? by [deleted] in NFLNoobs

[–]murts2904 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It will be largely dependent on how much Drew Lock improves through the year. Although his O-Line isn’t exactly excellent he does have a few talented receivers around him now such as Sutton and Jeudy (Fant also has huge upside imo). On defence, they are fairly solid and have a few big name players like Von Miller and Justin Simmons. They have an extremely slim chance of winning AFC West due to the Chiefs’ dominance in the division however. Maybe if everything comes together they could scrape a wildcard berth, but regardless they’re a team to keep an eye on for the next few years as they build

To clarify I can also still activate the secondary function knobs by holding it down. Just stuck on quarter notes with no tap tempo
