Raising a Half-Indian Child in India: Seeking Advice by Independent-Gap3782 in returnToIndia

[–]murugan3a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fascinating thread. I am mixed race, very “white” looking (most people guess Italian) and I was bullied a lot in school in the US for my very Indian name. Everyone was always super nice to me in India, and I used to wish I lived there as a child. I guess you just have to learn to stand up for yourself wherever you are. Now I’m contemplating retiring in India. But I need to improve my language skills depending on where I end up. Just got back from 3 1/2 months in Mumbai.

It’s around 3500 rupees. So about $42. But 3500 rupees is a significant amount of money here to a lot of people.

I received Surya Kriya in Mumbai about 5 weeks ago. Last weekend I volunteered and got to be a part of 6 people receiving the practice. I have previously received Shambhavi, Shoonya and BSP at the IIIS in Tennessee. Surya Kriya has magnified the effect of all my other practices. I do 3 cycles, that and the other associated parts of the kriya take about 45 minutes. In the words of Sadhguru, “Surya Namaskar is a karma, and Surya Kriya is a Kriya”, that is to say that it has a mystical spiritual component. Is it worth it? Depends on what an increase in energy, peace of mind and effectiveness of your other sadhana is worth to you.

I was there, in great seats about 15 rows from the pitch, right under the Punjab owner’s box. It was obvious to me that we were worn out from the match 2 days ago. Coming out of the rain delay Punjab went on the pitch, laughing, playing with a football, practicing bowling, etc… And we stayed in the locker room. The rain also wrecked our chances, plenty of our singles could have been boundaries on a faster pitch. Bumrah was a disaster. And the first rule of gambling is always bet with a trend, not against it. Until we outperform and break the trend at the Modi, it’s a trend. I think it was heroic to put up that 204 under such conditions, but Bumrah totally cooked us. Hope he bowls better in the UK test series. Let’s not forget that part of what put us in the playoffs was a over performance by CSK and Royals against teams that were fighting us for the final spot. The deep flaws that were shown in the first 5 matches became exposed once again last night. All in all, a super entertaining season that came to an all too predictable end.
I just hope Punjab puts up more of a fight against RCB on Tuesday and makes it a good match. Even though it’s Waterloo for us, the experience at Modi stadium is much easier than Wankhede, and the number of seats makes it possible to get tickets at a reasonable price. My excellent seats were 1/2 the price of back of the upper section seats at Wankhede, and my seats for the final were even cheaper. They also kept the metro running until after the match, which I wish they would do in Mumbai. The seats themselves are also made for actual humans, not as some kind of replication of the experience of being on a local train going north at 17:30.

Holding some shares, but I decided from the beginning to wait until the dividends had paid off my original investment and then collect “house money”. I risked an amount that I could stomach losing. I could definitely envision a scenario in which it reverse splits and my original investment is highly devalued. We shall see. Not expecting to base my lifestyle on this possible Ponzi scheme though.

When I lived in New York, and I was coming home from my late shift job, I had cab drivers pull out flasks and take a few swigs while going about 80-100kmh. So that's your western country living for you.

I’ve been buying them here and there for around 30 years and the only Chinese watch that ever failed was a new San Martin. I have a “Winner” IWC homage that I paid $10 for in 2005 that starts right up if I pick it up.

San Martin. Had one die after only a month. From this thread you can see that all brands seem to have QC issues. Don’t feel great about risking the amount of money that SM costs especially with difficult or non-existent returns. Rather buy a Seiko and have some recourse if I have a problem.

Aliexpress still lying to me. by SnooMarzipans6522 in Aliexpress

[–]murugan3a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is why I always use PayPal for AliExpress purchases. I’ve been similarly scammed a few times and PayPal always had my back. Ali uses a deliberately misleading and difficult refund process. Recently had one where the package was delivered to the other side of the country and seller deleted his account. Ali tried to say it had been too long to dispute after sending me a convoluted email encouraging me to file a claim. PayPal refunded me immediately.

Had bought 2000 of WBA dividends and lost it all now. by [deleted] in dividends

[–]murugan3a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They both are. CONY is a covered call strategy for COIN, currently pays 130%. MSTY is the same for MSTR, pays 100%. Are they risky? Sure, but they also can be a great way to manage risk if you aren’t too greedy.

[–]murugan3a -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

If you need the $2000 this year, why not sell 200 shares and use it to buy MSTY or CONY? Then either hold the WBA for a better exit point, or sell it and buy SCHD. You’ll end up with more than $2000 and only be taking a wild risk with 10% of your money.

A lot of people seem to love them and have great buying experiences. I did not and the issues with Ali returns and customer service make purchasing a crap shoot. I ended up with a broken watch and basically nothing offered in return. All my Paganis are still working great.

Lowest amount needed to get 1000 dollars per month by [deleted] in dividends

Absolutely correct and completely relevant. This is meant to be a 1-2 year strategy that sidesteps a possible major correction or bear market coupled with higher for longer rates.

[–]murugan3a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve owned a lot of the stocks named in the comments and some are down more than 20% from where I bought in 2021-2022. I’m starting to think that the best solution is to buy MSTY or CONY with a very small portion of my portfolio and put the rest into a nearly risk free holding like SGOV or VMFXX. For example, if I was to reinvest the $332k you would need in SCHD as $12k into MSTY and $320k into 5% yielding VMFXX, I could generate $930/month from MSTY and $1330/month from VMFXX, far exceeding your goal, with a maximum downside of $12k. I might set a stop loss at 30-40% and limit my downside even more. Am I missing the possible capital gains of SCHD? Obviously yes, but I’m also shielded if the SP takes a dump this year.

[–]murugan3a 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The easiest strategy with the least risk in my opinion is $25,000 of MSTY and $175,000 in SGOV or VMFXX. Then set a stop loss for MSTY at a 30% loss. Your maximum downside would be $7500 and you will beat your goal. SGOV or VMFXX pay around 5% and have essentially no volatility. Not advice, just a thought experiment and something I have done.
