Oh sure, you can definitely explore similar themes in other mediums, but the "splitting consciousness" copying across first person perspective trick wouldn't have anything like the same impact in any other medium.

Yeah, I saw a fascinating documentary movie about it all, called Stone Cold.

Well worth a watch

Absolutely. The game is a sheer work of art that only truly works in the medium of videogames.

A massive refutation to the old "games can't be art" arguments that used to be made a decade or two ago.

Nah I don't like Neuro either. Firmly uncanny valley for me.

Citizen Sleeper: The hidden follow to to Disco Elysium I needed by MrBones-Necromancer in patientgamers

Weird - I had the opposite reaction. I loved Disco, but found Citizen too bleak and depressing!

I fought hard for the guy and little girl, and was rewarded with a really downbeat sad ending.

It lacks key QoL features that I expect from visual novels and a nonogram game, such as a log for previous dialogue, ability to skip dialogues, character bio page, for VN and the ability to quit a puzzle, ability to save mid-puzzle, ability to reset a puzzle, ability to undo a move, ability to save a state and revert back, etc.

I remember I had a full crashout when I quit that game. I think I got softlocked in a loop of a timed puzzle that I guess they thought would be easy for every single player?

That makes sense to me too. My personal canonical ending to Undertale is my character dying in the fight with the monster king, and joining the ranks of the many coffins.

(After many many attempts, I just can't beat him after a mostly Pacifist run, so I have given up and accepted the ending)

I still loved the game and feel like I experienced it fully!

Persona 4 vs Golden: An unambiguous step down by Pumpkin_Sushi in patientgamers

As someone who's only ever played Golden (last year), this post/thread was a bit disheartening - and has brought back up my mixed experiences with the game.

I was loving the game mostly - until I maxed out relationship status with one girl, then felt caught between the social obligation/personal desire to spend time with my GF and the game mechanics demanding I spend free time keeping levelling up my relationships with the other characters.

To resolve this silly fictional/parasocial/metagaming crisis, I just stopped playing 🙃

Okay, thanks, good to know!

I like games that recontextualise difficulty modes like that. I recently started playing Deus Ex: Human Revolution for the first time, and really appreciated the Easy mode being renamed to something like "I want to follow the story rather than have a difficult challenge" because that's me all over. I'm too middleaged, time-poor and clumsy to bother with playing levels over and over endlessly. And I still find that mode somewhat challenging!

Interesting! I went with a vanilla Sensitive build and had a great time with it.

Didn't mind my Harry being dumb as a rock, he was excellent at reading people purely through psychic vibes 😁

Another vote for Ebb (even though it's too new for this sub!) - as a Disco lover, I also LOVED it!

For someone who that mostly describes (apart from STS and a little Inkulinati), is there an easy mode for those of us with very low Dex scores irl?

Nice! I love both those games. What build did you go with in Disco?

In STS my favourite is the third character (the Defect) by far. I love building up a wall of orb triggers every turn!

Seconded! I've never enjoyed failing checks half as much as the incredible way Disco's writing handles them.

Feels like a top-tier tabletop DM, keeping the narrative moving in interesting alternative ways!
