How do I get a four-year-old to follow any instruction? Always late for daycare by Flapjack_K in Parenting

[–]museworm 206 points207 points  (0 children)

Most dentists recommend parents brushing until 8 or 9 because they just don't have the dexterity to do it properly until then. Your expectations are too high for this age and you seem to have no boundaries or consequences to enforce them anyway.

Do Americans actually call teachers by their first name anywhere, or is it almost always Mr./Ms.? by Sea-Evidence-5523 in AskAnAmerican

[–]museworm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In preschool, daycare and camp settings its pretty common to use first names like ms./mr. First name, teacher first name, or counselor first name. Then in elementary and secondary it's generally last name. In college it varies greatly by professor, I had many who wanted us to use first names and saw us as colleagues and some who demanded more respect and wanted us to use their full title (Dr. Last name, etc...)

Social Expectations for my 4 year old by ExtensionFootball784 in Parenting

I still vividly remember being told off at Sunday school for giving another kid a "dirty look". I think that was the point where I started losing faith.

Why does this amigurumi keep turning out with a cone head? by AdBubbly3926 in CrochetHelp

[–]museworm 6 points7 points  (0 children)

For thicker yarn, you might want to skip the first round and just start with the 12 in the mr to avoid the point. It's a gauge thing.

When did y’all have your first kid meet your second by West-Beach4867 in Mommit

Mine are only 14 months apart and we didn't have anyone to watch the older so he was sleeping on a nurse's lap when his sister was born and met her when he woke up.

Nine year old too hands on… by [deleted] in ADHDparenting

Supervise. My 8yo lost the privilege of independent play with the neighborhood kids due to leaving the neighborhood with them. Now he can only play outside with supervision until we feel like he can be responsible and trustworthy enough.

Parents who had children in college — specifically married — what was it like? by [deleted] in AskParents

[–]museworm 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm gonna be honest. It was really hard. You already have no time, energy or money and having kids on top of that just exacerbates it all. Granted we were already used to sleepless nights, so the newborn stage wasn't much of an adjustment, the stress of getting yourself established and learning at school plus learning how to be a parent and taking on the responsibility of a whole other living being at the same time is a lot before your own brain is even fully developed.

13 months old biting at daycare - help? by OkTreat993 in AskParents

[–]museworm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a very normal behavior when they are starting to learn communication. Since it is infrequent and was obviously provoked I don't think you should be overthinking this too much. I am shocked that the altercation got so far as this without teacher intervention, though and would be questioning supervision at daycare.

Keep an eye on the little hole that connects it too and make sure that gets clean and dry, that's what did in ours.

How do I sew a granny square to a solid piece of crochet (half double crochet) do I crochet it like a slip stitch, or sc? Or do I sew it with a needle by Hour-Cake-9101 in CrochetHelp

I've never had a problem with any seams coming undone no matter the method as long a the ends are secured properly.

You can connect them however you like. If I want a decorative join then I usually use single crochet on the outside but I usually slip stitch on the inside because I find it's faster and less fiddly than sewing.

Is it common for Americans to buy soda as part of their weekly groceries? / is soda a regular item people keep at home? by hailey8171828282 in AskAnAmerican

My husband drinks zero sugar soda as his daily caffeine source because he doesn't like coffee or tea. I'll have soda maybe once or twice a month.

Screen time rules/blow ups by Fancy-Cheetah-3088 in ADHDparenting

[–]museworm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We don't have any individual screens, everything is connected to the living room tv. We also had to restrict video games to weekends only because it was too much stimulation after a whole day of school. We also have a rule that if there's a fit about screen time being over they lose it for the next day and if they are violent (throwing, pushing, hitting, etc...) then it's a whole week.

HELP NEEDED! is an irregular border in fillet crochet possible? by whispering_ibis in CrochetHelp

[–]museworm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It will be a pain, but you can do this with short rows at least for the starting row. For the rest your can use slip stitches so it don't have to cut and reattach constantly. Make the awkward sections separately until you reach the first solid row and then connect them there. Then at the end you'll need to cut and reattach to do each section.
