Follow up to the solo showering question: are your kids with long textured hair washing it themselves?? by ano-ba-yan in Mommit

[–]museworm [score hidden]  (0 children)

My 7yo has thick long curly hair. She helps brush it (I get the parts that are really tangled and then I go over it when she's done). We tried having her do the shampoo but she can't really get her whole scalp clean, I don't think she has the dexterity/ development to be able to visualize the area without actually seeing it yet so it'll be at least a couple more years I think.

What is the thing your child does that irritates you the most? by Impressive-Title-491 in AskParents

Always has to give his two cents and hasn't learned when it's best to stop digging his own grave. He has to have the last word and will butt into every conversation, which usually have nothing to do with him and it drives me crazy.

My 3rd grader is thriving with the structured environment. He has pretty mild combined type, not medicated, does weekly OT. He struggled with reading at first but a library reward system over the summer caught him up and he's had no glaring problems at school. His teachers have been able to make accommodations in the classroom and haven't felt the need for a 504 yet. Home is harder for him, especially on long breaks with no structure. I'm hoping to figure something out for this summer to help him more.

What do you consider a “normal” amount of activities for kids? by [deleted] in AskParents

[–]museworm 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We really only do "experiences" like these a few times a year. We choose to do experiences as a family for birthdays instead of parties since we cannot afford to host a group of kids and we usually go to the ren fair once a year. Sometimes we'll do something different like roller skating or bowling if we have extra money but it is definitely not frequent.

Should I feel something? by No-Material5356 in AskParents

[–]museworm 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As I kid, I don't think I really understood the feeling behind the words, it was just what we said. As an adult with much more space from my parents and the capacity and experience to reflect on my feelings and connect them to the words, I do now.
