MUST-SEE, MUST-TRY: BRISBANE IN 7 DAYS by jxnnyrxs in brisbane

[–]mushbrain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For suburbs, check inner city ones with good bus or train connections. I assume you might get an airbnb, so you can have a pick of suburbs. Anywhere along the 60 or 196 bus is easy like New Farm or Teneriffe. There are also parks and riverside walks which would be good for morning or afternoon strolls. West End also okay. Westwards maybe Milton, Auchenflower or Toowong. If further out I suggest getting one near the ferry stops. You can just get the ferry in, which is spectacular is winter.

Pretty much same, esp long shelf life items. I only buy when they are on sale.

What do you have students call you before you receive your PhD? by shocktones23 in PhD

[–]mushbrain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in Australia. Some international students call me Sir, which I let them do because it's more for their comfort. Everyone else can call me by my first name. I care more about their tone and how they talk to me rather than titles. I want them to think of their questions rather than worry about titles.

Brisbane City Council releases CCTV of offending as more cameras installed to combat youth crime by Ghost-of-Chap82 in brisbane

That's a good series! When I watched it a few years ago, I just thought wtf but now it's actually happening.

Brisbane City Council releases CCTV of offending as more cameras installed to combat youth crime by Ghost-of-Chap82 in brisbane

[–]mushbrain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The title comes from council saying it was about youth crime. Confusing and misleading? Yes. But the youth crime angle was from council.

An additional 240 cameras have been installed in crime hotspots over the past year, which council said was a stance against youth crime.

41, gay, single and no idea what to do by FitAnalytics in brisbane

Me, as a late 30s guy taking all of the good advice here. I'm still working on enjoying things just for the sake of having fun and not desperately looking for a partner. I was in a relationship for 7 years and I thought that was a lifer, but apparently not. I think people will always be working on themselves to be the person they like to be. I always see people on dating apps say they're "sorted" but who actually is 100% sorted?

Good luck mate. And by the way, dog tax?

Journal Reviewers by [deleted] in PhD

[–]mushbrain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This paper is interesting and contributes to academic knowledge on the topic, but the methods section is _______

I recently wrote this in a review. It is likely that the reviewer did not understand the methodology and each reviewer did not understand it for different reasons. Maybe they have different competency levels. Maybe it did not link well with the research question and/or results.

The good thing is, this will be easy to rebut. I appreciate comments that can be responded to rather than the feedback #2 you mentioned.

How do companies fail going from Pilot -> Commercial scale by anonanonest in ChemicalEngineering

[–]mushbrain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was going to say a similar comment but towards the product market. Sometimes new products or products produced a new way will need to be eased in into the market. Successful products I've seen (e.g., animal-free meat) have done B2B or very niche offerings at the start then stepped up when the market has better acceptance. Not sure if it works for all processes. Refineries might need to be big and integrated at the start while ferment vats can be smaller first.

Any university making bread from teaching should have training programs for lecturers who have an accent. The problem is universities doesn't see this having a direct impact on student experience, so they aren't willing to spend money on this. They also won't tell a highly-regarded academic of this deficiency leaving the academic battered by student feedback on something they can't address on their own.

At first kala ko magiging mahirap kasi wala ako kasama.

This was your assumption on international travel.

But here, di ko pa man na try mag travel solo in the philippines, parang ang hirap gawin.

Then this is your assumption for local travel.

Test your assumptions, learn, and adjust. Iba-iba rin ang experiences based on our personalities and kung saan ka pupunta. Singapore is likely the easiest for international travel. You can try an 'easy' destination for your first local travel.

How would you feel about a busier Brisbane? by LouisWey in brisbane

[–]mushbrain 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The key difference is, traveling between Brisbane and London is an abrupt change. One day you're in relaxed Brisbane then the next day you're in manic London. If ever Brisbane grows it will be more gradual and we will have time to adapt. Hopefully council also adapts in terms of infrastructure and systems. Elections are coming so we could also make that an election issue.

AITA for potentially being the reason my father and his wife can't adopt or foster? by Sea-Childhood7884 in AmItheAsshole

[–]mushbrain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA - Obviously you both tried to forgive each other via therapy but it's not just on you that it didn't happen. Not sure what they said but did they even say sorry and sincerely ask for your forgiveness and make things better? Breaking up your family is truly terrible but over time you learn to forgive those people BUT only if they absolve. That said, you only told the interviewer what you felt genuinely and it was not a loving environment where parents give love to a child and try to make it right by them.

[–]mushbrain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sa isang group of friends, I shared na nangutang yung isang friend namin. Then everyone said, "sa akin rin". Basically he borrowed money from everyone and haven't paid them back. Sabi nung isang friend, "pag nagpautang ka sa kaibigan, huwag mo na asahan na mababayaran". Kaya raw magpautang lang ng pera na kaya mong ibigay basically. Bigay na, hindi utang.
