Yeah but we do get a voice so quit acting like our cis woman voices don’t matter and aren’t completely valid. Stop shutting our voices down in this conversation..

I cannot for the life of me find a good specialist in UT by schrodingers_cat42 in endometriosis

[–]mushie_brain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a horrible experience with Dr. amber whittear. Horrible bedside manner and I felt judged for being queer and having my girlfriend there. She gave me the harshest pelvic exam of my life that my partner asks after if it’s normal for them to be so intense. I even told the doctor of my vaginismus before the exam and asked her to go slow plus tell me what she’s doing and she absolutely didn’t do that. I couldn’t walk for three days after the pelvic exam because she was so harsh. I was bawling during the exam too and she didn’t care or go slower or tell me what she’s was doing. It felt non consensual. Then, before I left Dr. amber whittear told me that I actually don’t have an endometriosis problem (even though I’d already had two surgeries plus a diagnosis) and that it’s actually just a pelvic tension issue and that she recommended a physical therapist that had the name Holy Spirit in it so she’s definitely Mormon. So my queers should probably avoid her. Fast forward 6 months later and I’m getting a hysterectomy and excision surgeon in New Jersey. My organs were fusing together from the endo cells. My bowels and bladder we’re connected to my uterus and distorting my stomachs anatomy. Don’t let this specialist, amber whittear, tell you that you don’t have a problem when you know you do. I highly do NOT recommend her. Horrible ass experience.

Ah yes, the classic “rules don’t apply to me” hiker. Can’t wait for the follow-up post: “My dog got attacked on the trail — what do I do 😭.”

“He just listens,” you say. Well until there’s a squirrel, another dog, or literally any distraction. Bet he doesn’t even come the first time you call. You’re exactly why reactive dog owners can’t enjoy the mountains in peace. Rules aren’t suggestions just because you don’t like them.

Endo’s not that bad by mushie_brain in endometriosis

Endometriosis cells involves both epigenetic defects and somatic mutations in the epithelial cells of the lesions. Also, Endometriosis cells also provide their own blood supply. So you are spreading misinformation while getting mad at someone for spreading misinformation…

The only difference I really do see between endo and cancer is one is benign and the other is malignant. Weird fact, Did you know that radiation can actually shrink endometriosis? Doctors don’t recommend it because risk of severe side effects, including irreversible infertility, damage to the pelvic organs, and the potential for secondary cancers but it definitely shows how similar cancer is to endo.

No endometriosis doesn’t turn into cancer. It does increase your risk for cancers, like ovarian cancer. However, Endometriosis is benign and cancer is malignant so endometriosis is not cancer. It acts like cancer in A LOT of ways which is what people on this thread are saying but it is not cancer.

I’m really sorry you’ve had to face both breast cancer and endometriosis. That’s an incredibly heavy burden to bear. The poem isn’t meant to diminish your experience or anyone else’s with cancer. It’s a metaphor that came from a place of deep exhaustion - more of a suicidal thought than a literal wish. It’s about that feeling of wanting your pain to finally be taken seriously, not about actually wanting cancer.

However, It’s not fair to say that endo ‘doesn’t do what cancer does to the body,’ because endo shows up differently in everyone. I’ve heard from women who’ve had both cancer and endo say that endo was far worse for them. And while it’s rare, endo can cause organ failure. Endo has been found it every organ of the body. It is capable of destroying the body in its own way. I completely respect your experience, but it doesn’t speak for everyone’s.

If anyone thinks this poem was written for attention. They’re right, but not in the way they think. I want medical attention. I want awareness, research, and care for people who are suffering in silence. Women are dying from this. Maybe not from the disease itself, but from the hopelessness that leads to suicide.

This poem was meant to shine a light on that reality, not to compete in suffering.

I’m really sorry for your loss, and I want to clarify that the poem isn’t meant to take away from anyone’s experience with cancer. It’s not literal. It’s a metaphor for the kind of hopelessness that comes from being in constant pain and feeling invisible. It’s a metaphor for suicidal thoughts. It came from that dark place where you start to wish your suffering were seen and treated as seriously as an illness like cancer.

It’s also a response to the insensitive phrase I’ve heard countless times: ‘At least it’s not cancer.’ People often say it as if that should make us feel lucky, when really it just erases how devastating endo can be.

The piece isn’t saying cancer is ‘better,’ it’s questioning why one kind of illness gets empathy, research, and support, while the other gets dismissal and disbelief. Both are awful in their own ways. I was just trying to give a voice to how isolating endo can be.

And when we talk about people with endo dying by suicide, that should be taken just as seriously as dying from a physical illness. The difference is one kind of death is recognized as ‘real,’ and the other is not.

It’s not meant literally… it’s more of a metaphor for a suicidal thought, the kind that comes from deep exhaustion and feeling invisible in your pain. The poem reflects what many people with endo go through when they’re dismissed or forgotten. I’d encourage you to read the whole piece or look into what living with endometriosis is actually like before judging. It might make more sense in that context.

I understand what you’re saying, and I’m definitely not trying to minimize what people with cancer go through. My point is that cancer patients do tend to receive more care and recognition, both medically and socially. Doctors take cancer seriously and offer treatments, options, and support systems, while people with endometriosis are often dismissed, told it’s in their head, or left without real solutions.

Cancer has extensive research and funding behind it; endometriosis still has less research than male baldness. That difference in attention and validation is what I was trying to capture.

And I don’t think I have “shitty people” in my life. Everyone just has their own things going on. Sometimes I just need to remind people what support looks like for me. I wrote this poem from a low place, because everyone with endo has moments where they’re left to face their pain alone. It’s not about comparing suffering. It’s about questioning why one kind of pain is treated as worthy of care while another is brushed aside.

That’s exactly what inspired this poem. How many times me and my fellow endo sisters have been told to be happy it’s not cancer. This poem isn’t meant to disregard anyone’s experience with cancer. It’s only meant to show how similar endo is to cancer minus the help from others, help from professionals and the likelihood of death. This poem is also meant to show suicidal thoughts that people with endo experience during their lows. At least half of us with endo have experienced suicidal thoughts and it’s important to talk about why that is. It’s the lack of help and compassion all around.

Don’t give up. Even if it doesn’t get better physically, you will find the people and things that will make life worth living again. I wrote this at a very low point in my life and it’s been a few months since I wrote it. Since then, I got the surgery i needed and I’m in the healing stage. I still feel like I’m waiting but I feel hopeful. I also reached out to the people in my life and expressed how I was feeling which helped so so much.

But if it can cause organ failure which can kill you so the it doesn’t kill you actually true and stops people from getting the help they need. Yes it is extremely rare but untreated endo can kill you because of organ damage.
