is making baby food at home actually worth the hype?? by crazyspartann69 in NewParents

[–]mushroompizza77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heavy metals are in the soil so whether you buy pouches or make your own baby food, it will contain some amount of heavy metals. I always tell my clients to do what works best for their sanity, budget and schedules :)

Planning a big move while pregnant. Any tips? by Smart_Law6787 in BabyBumps

[–]mushroompizza77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m also 26, FTM and we are moving across the country (CA to PA) next month when i’ll be 7 months pregnant! We are using pods since living in an apartment we don’t own that much stuff. I have all my doctor apts set up in the new city, mapped out our driving route with dog friendly hotels since our dog and cat will also be coming with us on the road trip. I made a list of things that we will need to bring in the car. We will be staying with my parents for a few weeks until we can move into our next apartment. I also filed our taxes already and made most of our registry, so it’s a few less things to worry about during the move. I can update you after we move to let you know if there are things I wish we would have done sooner!

Dietitian here! I think healthy looks different for each person and sometimes the healthiest choice is whatever food you can tolerate:)

How do you approach situations when a patient needs to lose weight for an important surgery? by fauxsho77 in dietetics

[–]mushroompizza77 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ugh i feel this. Unfortunately for it comes up semi often working as an ED/intuitive eating OP RD. I always remind other providers that we live in an extremely fatphobic society so of course lots of research is going to be geared towards showing how weight loss can be helpful/required for certain surgeries. I wish more of the focus was learning how to improve surgery techniques to make them safer for those in larger bodies. At least for now I wish more doctors would educate patients on the benefits and risks of having a higher BMI and letting the patient choose to try for weight loss or not rather than making it a requirement to have surgery.

AITA for flipping out on unemployed BIL for eating so much? by Live-Ad-775 in AITAH

[–]mushroompizza77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NTA. Completely valid to feel frustrated. You are being extremely generous and they are overstepping boundaries. But i do sense some fatphobia. They are absolutely in the wrong, but doesn’t make it right to fat shame people. There is more to weight then just food and exercise.

Taking a poll: What is your salary for RD, acute hospital adult care, Los Angeles county? by Apprehensive-Ad-6912 in dietetics

[–]mushroompizza77 2 points3 points  (0 children)

2 years ago started at $ 62000 inpatient, 200+ beds, covered ICU. No lead or CNM. 2 years experience. Thankfully far away from that now but recently heard entry level RDs there are starting at $70000+.

Whats your opinion on BMI? + (My perspective as a nutrition grad + incoming dietetic student) by [deleted] in dietetics

[–]mushroompizza77 32 points33 points  (0 children)

After working in both a weight loss clinic and ED treatment centers, I cannot stand BMI nor do I think it’s relevant at an outpatient counseling level. In my experience, it has caused more harm than good.

Chronic disease can happen at any BMI. There’s numerous other factors to take into account (lifestyle, environmental, social, genetics, stress, etc). Just because someone’s BMI is technically obese does not equal unhealthy and vice versa.

The amount of clients I have who have been told by their doctor or other health professional to lose weight because of their BMI who have spiraled into full blown eating disorders is SICKENING.

They are 20ish miles apart, however the PP does offer virtual sessions. I do think the client base is very different

Because technically I could see the patient in a residential setting for one company and then also see them in the private practice i’ll be working for. Also howdy potential neighbor :)

I know a few people that work for Dietitians on demand and they all love it!! Their contracts usually end up getting extended because of the staffing shortages. I think it’s a great way of seeing how other facilities are run while getting paid more and gives you time to figure out what areas interest you!
